I realize you are all thinking repetitive inquiries, but my situation is different from most or at least I think it is. I'm 14 soon to be 15 and I'm having a growth spurt right now and gaining strength without even lifting, but I want to maximize strength and size gains. I started SS for a little while in the winter until a freak hamstring strain stopped me from lifting. I was progressing really quickly before, but now that I'm in season for baseball I'm not sure how I would do. What do you coaches think I should do with this situation because I think there is a huge opportunity with the growth spurt, but I'm not an expert like you guys? Thanks for the help in advance.

I would bet that you can probably train during your season without great difficulty. Much of baseball practice, at least when I used to play, was more about skill work than exhausting physical activity. Make a go of it and see how things work out. Be smart. Train with good form and don't let the weight on the bar short circuit good judgment. How close are you to Westminster?

Thanks for the advice Coach. I'm about an hour and a half away from Westminster. My travel team plays out there. The seminar this weekend looked great but I couldn't afford it and was hoping to play games but it has rained all weekend. I'll get back on it then. Also how should I convince a friend that SS is better for general athleticism (strength, speed, power) than a bodybuilding split? I guess being young and not tiring easily he thinks we should do a lot more volume and numerous exercises. But I think basics and then sprints for speed maintenance because with strength gains you increase force production making you faster.

Get your squat up to 315 and start hitting more home runs.

He's running track, but anyway it should be obvious more force=faster. Thanks again. I know I'll be dead lifting at least 500 by this time next year.

If so, that would be tremendous progress. However, in the event that you haven't hit 500 in 12 months time, enjoy the gains that you do make.
