Back extensions?
Rip,
I've read your articles about ab work and "core" stability, etc..., and a question kept popping up that I haven't been able to find elsewhere (checked the books, used the search function).
If isometric work under the bar is sufficient for training of the abs, does that also hold true for the back? Do you now recommend cutting back extensions out of the advanced novice program and just adding in chin/pull ups?
Just wondering what your thoughts are.
Thanks

I mentioned this in the abs article. If your back hurts from time to time and you have been doing back extensions and situps, stop doing them and see what happens to your back. Deadlifts, squats, and presses are enough work for all the spinal support muscles if you're training heavy.
