Default Training with stitches on hand

    Hey Rip,

I had to have stitches on the outside of my hand a week ago. I continued my normal training yesterday, but pulling movements (even bodyweight chin ups and light deadlifts) give me a pulling pain on my hand.
After what time do you think it is safe to do heavy deadlifts and chins without the scar ripping open (my doctor didn't even know what deadlifts are) ?

    Thanks,
    Georg

If it bleeds, stop doing that.

Before somebody else asks, is this question really necessary?

I'm all for finding ways to train around stuff but sometimes you need to let something heal. Is splitting your cut open again worth laying off it for a week or so?

My doctor said after 6 weeks the skin would be ready for training again. Now 2 weeks later everything exept for heavy chin ups feels fine. Of course one should not lift with the skin still open, but I feel that not lifting for 6 weeks is excessively cautious. What I am trying to say is don't be stupid, but don't be scared either. Listen to your body. Also, moving the hand keeps the skin flexible and prevents the scar from becoming too hard.

Mechanic here, my hands are jacked up from time to time... I use gloves during those times, but not when the hands are in good shape.

Ahhh. Knuckle Burners. I hate those things. All my guys wear latex gloves now. I buy them by the case. I won't work without them.
