How far along into my novice training should i start adding dips and alternating pulls/chins? If at all?
I've been following the SS novice routine for just over a month now and was wondering when would be the most beneficial time to add these exercises as I couldnt tell exactly from reading the useful assistance exercises chapter.

I wouldn't change anything until you stop making progress. Even then, you might want to try other things first.

When you can't deadlift every second workout, throw in pulls/chins. Dips, however, will probably be a long way off, since you're already pressing every workout.

I added in chins/pullups even though I'm still deadlifting a couple times a week, because I'm trying to break the plateau that I've reached on my press. Why would you wanna add chins/pullups?

I agree about the dips though.
