    Default Starting Texas: my thoughts

    Hi,
I recently experimented Texas and I have to say that I like it very much for many reasons. The main one is that you really can modulate intensity as weeks go by. The intensity day is my favorite becasue if I feeel really good I push a Pr and if not I simply go for a bigger weight. Cool.
I was thinking about this kind of programming for the volume day:
    2 weeks 5x5
    2 weeks 6x4
    2 weeks 8x3
    and repeat.
I could go on with a 10x2/1 but I prefer leaving the low reps for tha last day of the week.
I wouldn't wait untill I stall to change the format of reps but I'll program it.
So every 2 (or more) weeks I'll change. That is what is supposed to do on Intensity day to avoid burn out (1x5/1x3/1x1).

That would probably be my template:

Monday volume - every block lasts 2/4 weeks = 5x5/6x4/8x3
    Wed. recovery 3x3 / 2x5
Friday ramping to max 1x5/1x3/1x2/1x1 (rotating every1/3 week)

    Monday

    Squat
    Press
    Weighted chins 3x6
    Pin Pull

    What do you think?

    Wednsday

    Light Squat 2x5
Push press/Press start 3x3 (alternate every week)
    Back extension 3x15
    shrugs 3xF

    Friday

    Squat
    Press
    Deadlift

+ Chins bodyweight 3-5 set F (alternate with Curl 4-5x8-10)
    Triceps 3x15

I think you love you some bold text. And I think you should do TM as prescribed until that doesn't work.

Something about TM that I only just realised, is that it is basically the same as Starr's (or mark berry) Heavy/light/medium concept.

All the volume on day 1 is the heavy workout.

    Day 2, is light.

And Day 3, although having heavy weights, the volume is very low, making it a medium.

In Starr's book, he makes it clear that you can create heavy/light/medium out of anything pretty much in terms of exercises or rep variations. It seems that the total volume is the significant factor.

In regrds to your program, DavidM. It is probably best you do your shrugs on day 3. Starr & Rip say they are pretty hard to recover from, and should be done before the weekend. It is supposed to be a light day, you need to be fresh to lift heavy and set PR's on Day 3.

i think you should stay doing 5x5 and then 5x1 on the intensity days untill it blows up on you, then cut some weight, do triples/singles, play about with reps..

I'm only planning on modifying anything when I start missing reps etc....
