    Default High Cholesterol--help!

Got some blood work done, and other than reading online that my results are 'bad,' I don't know how to interpret the data. But some of you meatheads are awfully smart, so here's my numbers.

Blood Pressure--good (130/80 or something close)

    Resting Pulse--65

    BAD BELOW
    Cholesterol 266
    HDL 42
    LDL 156
    Trigylcerides 337
    Non HDL 224

    Random Blood Sugar 83

Blood pressure is from memory but it was good.

Am I dying? Do I need to give up cigars and whole milk, stop eating double Philly Cheesesteaks? This is horseshit.

    What's your diet look like?

Do you have a glucometer at home? I'd get one, they're cheap.

    Waist to hip ratio?

I had good luck with cutting out the whole milk and consuming a lot of fish oil. This presumes you're currently drinking a lot of whole milk and not consuming a lot of fish oil. My doctor recommended cardio and weight loss, but I did not do either. Desperate times, however, may call for desperate measures. He also recommended less red meat, and I believe I switched out beef for pork more often.

If you add the fish oil I see no need to remove milk or red meat.

Maybe. I'm just saying what I did over the last three months to get my cholesterol down. I was also at the point where I didn't need that much milk anymore, so it was natural to cut back. I'm no scientist and I'm no nutritionist, follow my example at your own peril, I really did not do much research except into fish oil - fish oil is great for you for 20,000 reasons, take more of it than you think is reasonable.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with red meat in terms of cholesterol. It's the carbs and inflammation that you have to watch.

I thought so, too, but, just in case, I switched to pork. I didn't eat much sugar or bread, either.

Pork, if you're eating the fat, has a lot of PUFA's (tons of omega 6). A messed up O3:O6 ratio contribute to inflammation. Beef fat on the other hand has very very little of it.
