    Default Dropping a deadlift?

I've always lowered mine in a controlled fashion (to get extra work) but i've read somewhere that dropping them is much easier on the lowerback. At some stage is there is a net training benefit to dropping the deadlift for better recovery? Im at about 170kgx5 atm.

drop them, don't worry about the negative. you have 1000 posts how come you don't know? and i suppose you read the book

EDIT: by drop, it doesn't ,mean letting it go

as fast as you can with proper mechanics. but don't think about dropping it, just let it drop you into position

The way I remember learning it from the Book was to lower it in the same manner as it was pulled up. I'm not sure how to drop it without hitting my knees..

So what you're saying is that it is hitting your knees on the way up?

Bend at the waist until the bar's past your knees, then bend at the knees to get it the rest of the way down. This is explained on the video while he was teaching the brunette how to deadlift and why she shouldn't swing the bar around her knees on the way down.

The idea is to expend as little energy as possible getting the bar back to the floor. You're not supposed to be getting any work off the lowering part of the dl.
