Good luck with your training/eating. Are you aiming to squat 230 on Saturday, or go for another 10 lb jump?
-
Thanks, aa7. I ended up going with 230. Something felt odd in my legs this morning.
I think I'll go to 5 lbs on the squat from here on out, and keep 10 lbs on the DL until I stall.
-
Decent workout today:
Squat 3x5 @ 230 lbs. The warm-up felt bad as it seems I've strained my left quad slightly above mid-thigh and toward the outside (v. lateralis?). I'll give that a break over the weekend and see how it feels in warm-ups on Monday.
Press 3x5 @ 45kg. Last press workout I went 5/4/3 on this. I corrected the amount of rest between sets. That seemed to make a huge difference today.
P. Clean 5x3 @ 50kg. No energy for this. My tweaked leg made it hard to feel explosive. But I finished without much problem.
Added 3xF pull-ups (8,7,6) today since I'm going into a two day break.
Eating accomplishment: Dinner with my wife tonight, the restaurant had a 1-lb angus burger with guac and sweet potato fries. The waitress was shocked to see me finish it so quickly and with a smile on my face. It was pretty easy compared to eating massive quantities of quality food + GOMAD. The beer went down way better than the milk would have.

Monday, June 27
Great morning workout after a weekend of milk and sleep.
Squat 1x5 @ 245 (I guess my brain wasn't functioning yet, this was way too heavy)
2x5 @ 235
Bench 3x5 @ 75kg (166 lbs)
DL 1x5 @ 100kg (221 lbs)
Another round of pull-ups: 3xF (9,6,5)
1 round of 48oz PWO shake: milk, coffee, peanut butter, honey, whey isolate.
Feeling good and getting stronger.
No pain in the quad today.

Holy Bad Workout
Slept really bad the last two nights, and couldn't eat much today (b\c I'm a weakling).
Got to the gym in the afternoon, having only eaten about 1/4 of my food for the day. Not a good start.
Squat 240 lbs - 5,4,5
Press 47.5 kg - 5,5,4
PC 50 kg 5x3
Pull-ups 9,7,7
The squat killed me today. First set was okay, but bar speed was slow. Second, bar speed was actually okay until the 5th attempt. Only got a few inches out of the hole before having to set it down (gently). Took five minutes off and then went for the third set - got all three of the five with decent bar speed.
Press was similar, 2x5, and then the last rep of the last set felt like I was pressing 200lbs. I couldn't get it past my nose.
My lower back was hurting for the power cleans - I imagine from bad squat form on the shitty set and bad pressing form while I was struggling to get the last rep up.
Things I learned: sleep better, eat better, gotta ditch the running shoes immediately.
I've been working out in Brooks running shoes. NO MAS.
Took an entire pizza to make me feel better today.
Oh, and I got my foam roller and lacrosse balls in today. Here comes the pain.

I have not been doing the effing program.
That's my realization today.
Went in for:
Squat: 3x5 @ 245
Bench 3x5 @ 170
DL 1x5 @ 105kg
Came out with
Squat 2x5 @ 185, 1x3 @ 225
Bench 170 - 5,4,2
DL 1x5 @ 105kg
And a whole lotta pain in my legs.
The good news was that my form was good on the squats - way below parallel.
I think I started too high, and would probably be better off starting back at the beginning with proper weights than trying to push through.
Better to realize that you've screwed up early than to find out in another month right?
So, I will restart on Tuesday (gym's closed for the fourth) with:
Squat: 155
Bench: 135
DL: 185
Press: 75
Power Cleans: 75

Reset a little bit to try to get a few things under control.
Today was workout B
Felt good today
Squat 3x5 @ 185
Press 3x5 @ 40kg
PC 5x3 @ 45kg
I decided not to completely restart the program, but just to reset a little bit. It looks like things are going to be alright here. I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

July 8, 2011
My gym was closed today, so I had to get a day pass at the Y.
Squats 3x5 @ 195
Bench 3x5 @ 135
DL 1x5 @ 205
Felt pretty good today. I didn't have as much lower back soreness after today's workout than I usually do after workout A. Maybe that's just because the because I wasn't using as much weight.
I'm moving between two places right now, making it harder to eat at home. So I had a Wendy's Double Baconator for lunch. Very tasty.

July 11, 2011
Spent the weekend moving, and had very little energy on Monday.
However, it was a frustrating enough day at work to provide some good motivation for slinging around a few barbells.
Squat 3x5 at 205
Press 3x5 at 42.5kg
Powerclean 5x3 at 50kg
Everything felt okay. It was a bit demoralizing to work out next to the offensive and defensive linemen of a nearby college. They were also powercleaning, some of them with more than 100kg. Few of them got their elbows around very well though.
I've been having some lower back pain, that the foam roller and lacrosse balls are helping to clear up.
Looking forward to today's workout in a few hours.
