After seeing Max Aita's videos, I decided to try these recently. I was surprised at how well these actually work, provided the caveat that you actually have a pair of good wrist straps. Mine are fairly long/heavy duty, APT I believe. The key is obviously symmetrical placement and disallowing the straps to move. The nice thing is that, once you actually hold the bar, pulling on the straps, necessary to hold the bar up, reinforces the position, i.e. makes it unlikely that the straps will shift.
As a sidenote, this (obviously) necessitates a high bar placement. In order for it to be comfortable, you are more or less forced to shrug your shoulders up/back a bit, i.e. you reinforce good positioning by default. For those with banged up shoulders and without access to an actual safety squat bar, this is a pretty nice alternative. I suppose there's a certain risk of danger if you accidentally let go of the straps or something, but given Max Aita recently built his PR's with this method (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI_v_...eature=related), it seems safe/effective enough.

In a completely hetero sexual way, I love how Max Aita looks. God damn that's a bearish man.
I've done those before with 300 something. Useful but awkward for multiple sets. Didn't feel very safe with my crappy straps.
Old ass thread revival! I wanted to check out the video posted, but it's been removed. Can anyone help me find a video of it, or explain it a little better? I'm assuming just loop the straps around the barbell and hold on to the straps in front of your chest like a real SSB would work, but just wanted to make sure.
I think I found one finally...like this, right? http://www.myvido1.com/gUXJldjtWM4JF...-no-knee-wraps
