Some of you may know me from other forums.

I will be 45 years old in 2 weeks and am chasing a 2000 raw total in the 308 class. My next competition with be RUM 6 in February, 2013, and then the UPA Nationals in April (Dubuque, IA). My goal for these meets is a 1900 total. I am seeking a 2000 raw total by the fall of 2013.

Currently I am sitting around an 1800 3-lift total. This is up +150 pounds since the 2012 UPA Nationals nearly 6 months ago.

I eat low carb for health and train each lift once every 5 days as follows:

    Day 1 - Deadlifts
    Day 2 - OFF
    Day 3 - Squats
    Day 4 - Bench
    Day 5 - OFF

I work (generally) to daily singles, doubles or triples and do no assistance work.

Long term I want to be the oldest man in powerlifting history to hit a 2000 pound total. Health and God willing.

Is there a training philosophy that you follow? Do you do any back-off work?

I started about 2 years doing a high frequency approach, 2 weeks on, 1 week complete deload. I was pushing for an overreaching state. During this time I was hitting each lift 3x a week using different variations, except for the squat which was a daily max. Over time I evolved my training based on the results I was getting, and my recovery needs.

The last 6 months I have been using the 5 day rotation with no deloads. It's been working well so I'm letting it run it's course.

    Workout Grade: B+

Decent pulling session. Felt energetic and strong. My lower back is only about 80% so I didn't push things too much. Hit an easy 3 with 675 on deadlifts. Held back on trying 4 or 5. Not trying to push deads right now; just need to build confidence pulling 675 frequently.

Projected deadlift max is around 740 right now. 4 months until RUM. Want a 750 minimum.

    Deadlift
    135 x 5
    225 x 3
    315 x 1
    405 x 1
    495 x 1
    545 x 1
    585 x 1
    635 x 1

    675 x 3 w/ Static hold on last rep

    Workout Grade: A+

I have no idea who I am becoming. Sounds like an odd statement, I know, but the last 2 years have changed me on so many levels. Committing to powerlifting has forged my mental strength beyond any level I had thought imaginable.

Today I was stressed, angry, tired and did not want to lift. I thought about stopping after my 505 rep - why not, no one was watching.

On a whim I slapped 585 on the bar, looking only to punish myself for my lack of belief and slack attitude. I went ape sh*t, found my mental zone and shredded the rep. It was a PR with the buffalo bar, and much quicker than my 582 was last month.

Progress! I love this sport as much as I hate it. And I really do hate it. Figure that out.

    Bench day tomorrow.

    Squats - Buffalo Bar
    145 x 5
    235 x 3
    325 x 1
    415 x 1
    465 x 1
    505 x 1
    585 x 1 - Working singles PR

You're a beast. Very inspiring. Subscribed!

Edit: What's your height/weight and how long have you been lifting?

5'10", 306. I plan to compete about 298 or less at RUM in February.

I've been lifting on and off for 26 years, but only serious about powerlifting for the last 2 years.

Great stuff. Don't see too many peeps using daily max for powerlifting.
