What's your best gym bench at 198? Do you lose a lot from pausing? Strong lifts btw.
Title is the only relevant information you need, but I'll provide the rest anyway.
Age: 22
Height: 5'6"
Weight: ~195lbs
Body Fat: 20-25% (aka fat)
Training History: ~18 months
Last Meet:
BW: 196.0lbs(89.1)
Squat: 418/440x/440x or 190/200x/200x
Bench: 242/253x/253x or 110/115x/115x
Deadlift: 396/440/463(PR) 180/200/210
Total: 1124lbs or 510
Next Meet:
UPA Fed, June 8th @ Local's in Lynnwood (my everyday gym)
Goals:
1) Improve Total
2) Improve Wilks
Current Plans:
Undecided both in terms of what weight class I'll be competing in and what type of programming I'll use. Likely, I'll compete in 198 and use the conjugate method.
Other:
Even though they're utterly meaningless, my best gym lifts are 445x5@242 squat, 225x11 and 275x1 tng bench at 220, and 395x5 conventional deadlift at @198.
Feel free to ask any questions. Most of you know how much I like to talk...

You beat my first meet total by 11 lbs.
You compete sooner than me. No points for procrastination.
Thanks.
I lose ~10lbs from pausing and ~10lbs from having to bench with my feet flat. I probably lose even more than 10lbs pausing when the pause is 40 seconds long.
I've benched 260 at 198 in the gym:
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, those pauses looked really long. How long did you train with a pause before the meet? I haven't paused a bench in forever but have a meet coming this summer (USAPL). I'm hoping not to lose too much off my touch-n-go.
Paula, the head judge, is notorious for being hardcore with the pauses. I trained for about two months with mostly pauses. It seemed to hurt me to be honest. My bench went down and I lost some muskells.
Interesting, thanks. When is your next meet? I'll be looking forward to following your progress.
June 8th. Glad to have you along for the ride.
I don't have first hand experience but one of my friends has a pretty big bench. Occasionally, he will go to another area and say the judge there will make him pause longer than normal. He said once it was like 3 full seconds. He said it freaked him out but there was nothing he could do about it.
I've got to think that pauses help strength off the chest and would be good for natural (non-shirted) benchers. Does your experience make you think differently?
