Pressure from the daily grind
When a lifter wants a break from the pressure of another work out shold they rest longer or should they lower the weight?

Just depends. If its physical then sometimes a light workout is best, if its mental, then a day or two off from training can be helpful. Just don't make a habit of either. If you feel you need to do this often, you need to examine why. That's why I favor kind of a minimalist approach to strength training if possible.
Its harder to "get up" for squats/press/cleans/chins. Its much easier to stay excited about your training if you only schedule 1 or 2 things at each session.
