I'm 26, 5'11", and have been overweight pretty much my entire life. I started exercising in college, mainly through HIIT and fucking around with smith machines and dumbbells without a plan or purpose. I got in good shape in terms of cardiovascular fitness and managed to get to a decent weight, but after I graduated I sadly stopped cold turkey, and the weight piled back on. A couple of years ago I started weight training, but chose a random program off the webpage of some personal coach, and although it contained a lot of good barbell exercises like deads and squats, it wasn't suited for me. I made slow progress, the program contained far too many assistance lifts or unnecessary lifts like curls, shrugs, arnold presses, etc, and didn't enjoy what I was doing. After going through a rough patch a year and a half later I stopped working out again. I've just decided to start again, but this time doing SS. I have seen some very motivating progress, and thanks to Rip's book and to actually planning ahead and looking into the how's and why's of strength training, I feel more motivated than ever. I'll try and track my progress here
