    Default TM upper/lower Program Critique

    • starting strength seminar jume 2024
    • starting strength seminar august 2024
    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    Sex: Male
    Age: 19
    Bodyweight: 176lbs
    Estimated body fat%:=16-18
    Goal: powerlifting

Currently about to restart TM, I ran the original full body split for about 4 weeks then switched to upper/lower for another 3 weeks and hit PR's on Squat(285x5) Bench(215x5) and DL(345x5). However I got sick a few weeks ago and just now easing back into TM. This is what my split looked like before but I never got the chance to "run it out" because of getting sick. have made some adjustments to accommodate weaknesses Would like some constructive criticism.

    Note: by 3x5 I mean 3 sets 5 reps

    Upper VD:
    bench 5x5
CGBP/OHP 3x5 (will interchange for what I feel is weak point)
    barbell row 3x5
pull ups 4x5(trying to add reps to pull ups each session)
    skull crushers 3x8-12
    barbell curls 3x8-12

    Lower VD:
    Back Squat 5x5
    SLDL 3x5
    Front Squat x5("intensity" front squat)
    calve press 3x8-12

    Upper ID:
    Bench x5
    CGBP/OHP 3x5
    barbell row 3x5
pull ups 4x5(trying to add reps to pull ups each session)
    skull crushers 3x8-12
    barbell curls 3x8-12

    Lower ID:
    Squat x5
    DLx5
    Front Squat 3x5("Volume" front squats)
    calve press 3x8-12

Thinking of doing Intensity CGBP/OHP on volume bench day and Volume CGBP/OHP on intensity bench day.

I'm wondering if BB rows and chinups on Thursday will impact your intensity deadlifts the day after?
What type of BB rows? and are they taxing on your lower back?

I think some see the split programme as push/pull rather than upper/lower, and the deadlift is seen as a pull.

Perhaps the assistance work on Mondays and Thurdays should be more push oriented, and you can do some pulling assistance work on Tuesdays and Fridays?

I really recommend Practical Programming 3rd edition. It has a lot of programme templates.

(I am no expert, just a guy that likes to lift and read parts of practical programming and the internet).

I think if you do upper before lower, and you want to include assistance, you keep upper all push related, and save your rows and chins for lower. I would also drop front squats, and I think overall has too much assistance work.
