I’ve wasted enough time on this forum. I might as well start a log to see if it will help with my consistency. I’ve been meaning to get my log into the forum for a while. I’m sure it says something about my personality and behavior that it’s taken so long, but I’m not sure what.

    Brief training history:
    Log entry from 17Dec11
    Fun with kettlebells
Squat: 3x5 145 (off of cinderblocks and some rickety saw horses)
    Press: 3x5 115
    Clean 4x3 135
    Dead 1x5 285

5Nov12 – started a program by Andy Baker. 3 times a week. One lift a day. Singles on Moday, triples on Wednesday, 5’s on Friday.

    PR’s as of early 2013
    1x1
    Squat: 395
    Dead: 400
    Press: 195
    Bench: 285
    PC: 187

Didn’t do jack for the summer of 2013 because I was simultaneously busy and lazy.
Started back up on 24Aug13 with a monster squat of 3x5 275. Per the log, it was heavy.

Dinked around the rest of 2013 and most of 2014. Squatting enough to stay in the low 300’s and inconsistently enough to be sore. A lot. Did two training sessions with a former SSC, Grant M., in Iowa in the fall of 2013.
Summer of 2014, I found out my cholesterol was high. But I got over that scare because I haven’t done much about it. Weight loss, macro counting, and training has been inconsistent.

Goals: Add weight to the bar. Remove weight from the gut. Consistent conditioning. Consistent macro counting (I love carbs and they love me). Clean the garage. Spend more time with the kids. Finish War and Peace.

And I’m going to do it…Tomorrow.

    23Aug14 – Figure out where I’m at
    Squat 4x2 345
    High on last rep
    Press 3x5 135

    9Sep14
    Squat 2x5 320
    1x3 320
    1x2 320
    Keep chest up
    Gassed – skip bench

    17Sep14
    Press 3x5 140
    Squat 2x3 335
    Chins 5x1

    20Sep14
    Bench 3x5 210
    PC 1x3: 135,145,155
    1x2 165
    3x1 170
Dead work up to 1x1 365
    Failed 385
    1x1 345

And later that day, in workboots and jeans, without warming up, I pulled 345 again. It popped up so quick I took a couple steps back on the platform. Lucky I didn’t get hurt. But – with jeans, my regular belt, and weight lifting belt – getting into position was really tough. During my regular deads, I’m not getting tight enough. Hey – maybe I should remember that. Lack of conditioning is affecting (or is it effecting?) my squats.

In honor of the thread that inspired this log’s title, I’ll offer up three stories.

#1. One of the dumber things I’ve done is squat off of saw horses propped up on cinder blocks. I knew this was a disaster waiting to happen, so I was always a little hesitant in my squats and was squatting high. When I got my rack, I really focused on shoving my knees out and making depth. First time I hit depth, I split my boxers in two.

#2. After a busy week, I was lifting at around midnight. I was tired, but I didn’t want to skip another workout. I had 225 on the bar. In my stupor, I pulled two plates off of one side. As I turned around, I watched the bar slowly pivot, dump the two remaining plates, then oscillate between smacking the top of the cage and the safety pin before the bar fell off and crashed into some shelving. I drank a beer and went to bed.

#3. I’m at the bottom of a squat, trying to grind out of the hole. Someone comes in and shows me a flower. I yelled at her and made her cry. Later, I felt bad since she was two, and my daughter. I found her to give her a hug and she asked “You nice now, or are you mean?”
