Okay, I've been doing SS for a month or so now, so I figure its time to start a training log.

    Background:
My wife and I started lifting at a non-SS gym here in Austin, where we they had us doing deadlift, bench press, seated overhead press and box squats. We got over the initial form issues and figured out that we wanted to do this, and so we started outfitting our garage gym.

We transitioned to the garage about a month ago, and we're still short on some equipment, but back to school expenses for 4 kids has put the kibosh on equipment acquisition for a month or two. I only mention this so if you watch our videos and see us deadlifting where we have cardboard to keep the bar from rolling away from us, or see us lifting in sandals and sneakers instead of lifting shoes....just know we've got a shopping list still. :-)

Anyway, I'm 42 years old, 6 feet tall and 235 pounds. My wife...she's 44, 160 lbs, and I can't remember how tall she is.

Just before we left the other gym, we did 1RM's. Here are our results:

    Exercise Me DW
    -------- ---- ---------
    BP 160 90
    DL 335 160
    Box SQ 285 150

Moving to the garage, I switched to regular LBBS instead of box squats. I at least convinced DW to do LBBS for her warmups, but so far she is sticking with the box squats for her worksets. I tried to start us out at around 70% of our 1RM's for working weights, but I did the math wrong in a couple cases, which was later fixed.

Given our ages, we're currently only working out twice a week. And we haven't added power cleans yet, so we do the following workouts once per week:
    Workout A: SQ/BP/DL
    Workout B: SQ/OHP/DL

This is probably plenty of info for the background post. I'll post our actual workouts next.

Welcome. Several of us lift with our spouses. I have no idea what a box squat is but both of your numbers look impressive.

    Thanks!!

A box squat is where you squat with a barbell down into a wooden box. I think the idea is that if you fail while you are in the hole that you just sit on the box until your spotter can help out? I'm not sure, really. I do know that its NDTP, though. :-)

Here's a link to what it looks like: Box squat example

    starting strength coach development program
It's a method of training for depth. Keep up the good work. At some point it's not needed.
