Beau's log of relentless (or obsessive) improvement
Greetings - moving here for the time being from the intermediate subforum because I realized I was actually a novice . . .
39 y.o.
5'10", 192 lbs
Current lifts:
Squat: 315 (5RM)
Press: 140 (5RM)
Deadlift: 385 (5RM)
Bench: 197.5 (5RM)
Power clean: 185 (3RM)
2/1/2016
Squat: 3x5@315 - Felt pretty good
Press: 3x5@140
Deadlift: 1x5@385 - Concentrating on back extension, but it broke down mid-set, particularly thoracic extension.
Calories & macros: No idea today because of birthday party

Welcome to the other side, Beau - not bad at all for your age, weight and "beginnerdom". May your LP continue for a long time still!

Hey there, Beau,
Good lifts. Super curious to see where you end up at the end of your LP walking in that strong.

Hi Beau, welcome to the land of easy progress. I will follow your log, as you're already pretty strong for a novice.

Thanks for the warm welcome, all. Much appreciated, and glad to be on this journey with you.

CrossFit class:
Worked on maintaining extension in deadlift at light weight during strength portion
WOD: 3 rounds:
1 min. burpee box jump overs
1 min. pistols (modified on low box)
1 min. muscle-ups (blech - went on rings, got none)
1 min. double-unders
1 min. rest
Score: 249
Keep an eye on tomorrow - might make sense to go soon to a light squat day on Wednesday. For now trying to use the CF WOD as an approximation for HIIT.

High intensity interval training. The hieroglyphs above are CrossFit jargon describing a workout. I do my work out of a CrossFit gym, and CrossFit has been my background for the past three years or so. Jordan Feigenbaum is a fan of high intensity interval training (HIIT), and I dig it too - but I'm keen to do as the Romans do at my gym, at least twice a week or so. So I'm trying to use CrossFit workouts as an approximation for HIIT (they are similar in some ways), but the jury is out on whether or not this will work. I was warned over in the nutrition forum that three CrossFit workouts a week would almost certainly not work with the Texas Method, and I assume the same is true of the SS LP.

Thanks. HIIT is an important addition to our training. I need to do more of it.

Squat: 3x5@320 - Going too deep on many reps, weight was manageable though
Bench: 3x5@200 - Good
Power clean: 175x 3, 3, miss/re-set, 3, 3, 3
Feet still going too wide on power clean, and rack position is inconsistent at best. Squats & bench first + biceps tendinitis + lousy power clean even after three years of (somewhat inconsistent) weightlifting = An exercise resembling the power clean in which I feel like I'm walking across glass in bare feet. Ugh.
Deadlift and clean training camp in Farmington coming up on the 13th, and none too soon.

I look forward to meet you. That's our gym.
