    Default Starting Over...

    • starting strength seminar jume 2024
    • starting strength seminar august 2024
    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    STATS:
    • Age: 33
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 229

So, I've wasted probably the last 5 years of my training. Kettlbells, functional stuff, etc. Before that, I did SS religiously for about a year. After I finished SS, the wheels came off the track. I am nowhere as strong, capable, fit, or happy as I used to be. I have become a "fat dad" and have decided that I'm not interested in going down this path any longer.

    THE PLAN
    • SS * 3/week
    • 20 minutes of interval training on Airdyne * 2/week
    • 45 minute walk * 5/week

    GOALS:
    • Get strong
    • Get fit
    • Never look back

Any and all comments are welcome.

Sound plan. Just do it. You know how, now get it done.

I'd focus on establishing a lifting routine/habit first, then add in the other stuff. But if you can do all at once without burning out too quickly, by all means do that.

Interested to hear why you left SS after a year.

I was on active duty at the time; I thought I needed to spend more time running, conditioning, etc. Looking back, I probably should have just switched to 5/3/1 with some sensible conditioning. Instead I did CrossFit, military specific stuff, lots of running, lots of dieting, etc. I got hurt, left active duty, and got fat.

Going to build back up and then keep doing what works this time.

Sounds familiar. Looking back I'm surprised I never asked why all of those push-ups didn't really seem to help when the rucksack got heavy.

Hey, RDW. Glad you're back on the wagon. When you did SS before what were your results?

Last SS sets before I decided I was "advanced":

    BS: 330
    BP: 260
    DL: 400
    PR: 185
    PC: 250

I definitely could have gone further; however, I was starting my company command and I was expected to "set the example." This meant I needed to run a sub 13:00 2 mile and do 100 pushups/situps at any given time. So I started doing functional/tactical stuff. I nearly destroyed my body with all the running/rucking and CrossFit-esqe BS. I will say that I was MUCH more capable of kicking in doors and whatnot when I was "slow" and "muscle-bound" than when I was "setting the example."

    Hard lesson.

    Daughter's fifth birthday

Waffles for dinner and Graeter's ice cream for dessert. Long hike with the family.

    Good day.

Had to rush through this; had date night with the wife. Everything felt easy.
