Reason for SS:
In ballet, specifically Nutcracker season, it became apparently that I had to get stronger to proficiently lift partners. I started with pressing a 70-lb bag of sand from Farm & Fleet for 3x10 in my garage. I later started some kettlebell swings and back-squatting the bag for 3x10, finding the sticking point on occasion. I noticed that even this little gain in strength helped to improve mobility during class. After watching a couple clips of Rip and Bret on Art of Manliness, I decided to get a squat rack and a barbell/plate set. While I did some resistance training for cycling and climbing, I've never done a serious barbell program.
This log begins with backdating my lifting history starting in December, 2015. There are periods of NDTP, and I own that. I wanted to keep dancing and skating while supplementing with squats, presses, and deadlifts. I didn't incorporate bench presses and power cleans until later. Nutrition was a guess. I've since realized that it's better to get as strong as possible as fast as possible than to try to do it all at the same time; and that strength comes quickest when you DTFP. I like to think that things are more on track now since having seen and been in contact with a local SSC, Karl Schudt, and undergoing private nutrition consultation with Jordan Feigenbaum, MD. I've taken a hiatus from ballet to eliminate it as a recovery sink. I want to get strong. I'm in this for the long game. No one else is going to do it for me. No one else cares. It's all on me. I own it.
