Hello guys. I was hoping someone could do a form critique. I started doing heavier weights and it seemed like my form was off so I wanted to post my one rep max to show. Thanks.

    A few thoughts for you:

    1. Welcome to the forum. It is great that you are lifting, and working on getting even better.

    2. It would help if you could get a little more tightness in your back. Use the cues in Rippetoe's book (the five steps for deadlifting) - they help quite a bit. It appears that your back is still rounded during the lift.

    3. A lot of folks will say you need to submit a set of five for evaluation. You might want to keep this in your mind for future evaluations.

    4. Even though it is pretty awesome to do - try to hold your valsalva through the completion of the rep (to lockout & then putting the bar down again). The groan means your valsalva is released, and thus less pressure & tightness. Loss of tightness is not ideal for lifting heavy weight.

    5. If it is at all possible, it *may* be helpful to lift when your little ones are either not around, or asleep, or occupied. Their crying might be a distraction to you, and mental distractions result in failed lifts. If you can't lift when they are out or asleep, it might be worthwhile to occupy them with a video or toys, etc. NOTE: I'm not trying to tell you how to parent at all - I'm just trying to offer a few suggestions on how to lift better. I know how it is though - I have two toddlers at home myself, and they cry over a LOT of stuff (color of the straw in their milk cup or dinner plate, when their favorite undies are in the wash, a broken graham cracker, etc.)

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the response.

I will definitely read over Rip's 5 steps again. I don't do the stating strength program anymore but when I do deadlifts for reps I will record to make sure my form is corrected. Thanks again!

Hello again guys. I took the advice given on reading Rips 5 steps to Deadlift. I am posting 3 videos on here for another form check. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

It's really hard to evaluate your video when a) it's turned 90 degrees clockwise and b) the light is streaming through the window behind you. Please re-shoot with the camera in the correct orientation and close the blind so that we can better see your form.

    Read the sticky :-)
