I’m strength training consistently again after moving to the foothills a few years ago, followed by a lot of what I can only describe as “shit”, so I’ve decided to start keeping a log here again (I have an old log around here somewhere). Male, 36, 5’-11” and ~204 lbs, probably somewhere around 25% bf. Currently consuming 3,000 calories a day, 220g protein, and I’m not worrying too much about fats/carbs at the moment. Starting week 6 of linear progression tonight, and my progress thus far:

    Weight: 200 - 204
    Squat: 145 – 235
Dead: 165 – 245 (took a little time to figure out form that works for me here)
    Bench: 125 – 165
    Press: 85 – 120

I had some form issues with the squat and dead back in the day, so I never really made good progress on those lifts. My squat is ahead of previous PR’s by an easy 40 or 50 pounds, and moving ahead steadily. For the deadlift, I’ve realized that I need to be pulling with a semi-sumo stance after a lot of trial and error. I realize that it may not be optimal, and perhaps I’m NDTP, but I’ll take progress with a narrow sumo stance over non-progress with a conventional stance. Come at me, bro.

    Weight: 204

    Squat 45x5, 105x5, 155x5, 205x3, 240x5,5,5
    Press 45x5, 95x3, 125x5,5,5
    Dead 135x5, 205x3, 255x5

Squats felt heavy - last reps of sets 1 and 2, and the last 3 reps of set 3 were a grind. Press is also getting heavy - I may only have a few 5 pound jumps left in me.

Weight: Not sure, didn't weigh myself this morning.

    Squat 45x5, 105x5, 155x5, 205x3, 245x5,5,5
    Bench 95x5, 135x3, 170x5,5,5
    Dead 135x5, 205x3, 265x5

Squat sets at 245 went better than at 240, even though I came into this session having some doubts about finishing all 15 reps. Bench, like the press, is close to running out of 5 pound jumps. Deads feel good.

    Random ramblings:

This weekend should be interesting recovery-wise. Past few nights have been OK at best in the sleep department, and we've go a busy weekend planned. Today is the Fall Festival at my daughter's school, followed by a Halloween party at the in-laws, and my parents happen to be visiting from Texas. I'll have to squeeze in a (likely hung over) training session tomorrow morning before heading down the hill to visit with them and my grandmother.

Weight: Not sure. I knew I'd be retaining water from the beer and less-than-stellar diet over the past few days, so I didn't bother weighing myself. Should have an accurate number by Wednesday.

    Squat 45x5, 105x5, 155x5, 205x3, 250x5,5,5
    Press 45x5, 95x4, 130x4,2,0
    Dead 135x5, 205x3, 275x5

Went into this session feeling under-recovered, but confident. Confidence waned after my squat warm-up at 205 felt difficult. Made all my reps, but it took a lot out of me. Failed the press spectacularly. I'll attempt 130 again on Thursday, and start microloading after that. Deads felt heavy, but doable.

Due to the holiday and some other obligations, I pushed yesterdays training to today.

    Weight: 207

    Squat 45x5, 105x5, 155x5, 205x3, 255x3,1,1
    Bench 95x5, 135x3, 175x5,5,5
    Dead 135x5, 205x3, 285x5

Poor recovery is starting to catch up with me. Additionally, circumstances at the moment have me pretty much hating life. I'm sure the negative attitude is not helping anything.

    Weight: 207

    Squat 45x5, 105x5, 155x5, 205x3, 255x5,3,1
    Press 45x5, 95x4, 130x5,5,5
    Cleans (Hang) 45x5, 65x3, 85x3,3,3,3,3
    Chins BWx5,4,3

Nailed the press this time, failed the squat again. Recovery's been good as far as I can tell. I'm thinking that I will drop down to 225, and post a form check just to cover my bases. Maybe work back up to 250-ish, and then implement a light day. Haven't done cleans in quite awhile, and definitely have my work cut out for me.

Comments later - in a hurry at the moment.

Edit: Squats felt and looked good to me. I need to dig up my youtube password so I can post a form check. I think that recovery was the cause of my 255 stall, but want to rule out any gross form errors. Belted up for the press, which I'm pretty sure was a PR for me. I've done 132.5, but not for a complete set of five, IIRC. Also belted up for the deadlift for the first time, which was also a PR.
