    Default Still a full depth squat?

    • starting strength seminar jume 2024
    • starting strength seminar august 2024
    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    Recently, I fixed my squat form by bending over more, creating a more horizontal back angle than before. In doing so, I noticed my squat depth is now not as deep, which I understand is normal. Is the below still a full squat?

    With enough time to look at the picture, I would say this is valid; by not much, but valid.

    The bottom line is reference line from top of patella to hip joint (as estimated by end of crease in shorts). Top line is parallel line for comparison. You are clearly below parallel. I can't imagine a judge (at least not a Strength Lifting judge) red-lighting this squat. But I'm not as experienced in competition as others on this board.

    I would like to squat deeper if I could, but this is the deepest I can go without relaxing any muscles at the bottom.

    I see it as such: If you are training just for general strength purposes, then this depth is just fine. If you’re training for a competition, then you may want to consider trying to get just a little deeper, so that you’re bellow parallel without a doubt.

    This is a picture of a legal squat in any powerlifting federation on earth. This is the depth we coach at our seminars. I see nothing wrong with this depth. His hip crease is clearly below the tops of his patellas.
