Just a typical training log so I can A - see my progress and B - keep myself accountable.

A little about me, I’m a 38 year old male. All my life I was an athlete. I wrested throughout school and college and then competed in jiu jitsu and mma as an adult. I was always in pretty good shape though I wasn’t a ‘lifter.’ For the past couple years, however, my physical activity has declined as my personal responsibilities have increased (kids and fiancé). Unfortunately I am in the worst physical condition of my life.

As the title of my log suggest, I am currently deployed. I have been in this location for a week or so and I will be here for just over 6 months. My goal is to make the best of this opportunity to get myself back into shape. This is my journey...

Since I have been in country I have completed two lifting sessions.

    Session 1
    Squat - 185 x 5 x 3
    Bench - 155 x 5 x 3
    Deadlift - 200 x 5 x 1

    Sessions 2
    Squat - 195 x 5 x 3
    Press - 95 x 5 x 3
    Deadlift - 210 x 5 x 1

My lifts felt relatively easy. Bench may have been the only one where I felt real resistance.

Deployment gains are real! Good times. Welcome.

    For context: What's your height/weight?

    1-18-19

    Squats - 205 x 5 x 3
    Bench - 160 x 5 x 3
    Deadlift - 225 x 5 x 1

I switched from days to nights recently at work. So it through my lifting schedule off just a bit. But I felt fresh. So the extra day of rest might have been a blessing.

176 days until I return home.

On a side not, I read a lot about the amount of calories one should eat when on this program. I’ve seen3500 or more thrown around consistently. But my question is, do you really need this amount as long as you are getting your 200grams of protein daily?

Protein is a bit more important. It is the main factor in building muscle. However, you probably should not go much below 3500 calories while lifting.

I’m guessing that’s *shouldnt* go below 3500. Thanks Carson. Ok not so much worried about losing weight as I am about losing my waist line. I’m guessing that’s just a matter of keeping g the macros on point.

Yes. There are times I think I should quit posting. Still, should not is what I meant. Keep up the good work.

Just keep an eye on your waistline and adjust calorie intake as necessary.
I'm 5'8" and I seem to grow on 2000 calories a day, any more than that and I just get fat, I'm already fat (around 20%) so I definitely don't want to be getting fatter.
At 6 foot, 232 pounds, 3500 calories is a good starting point.
