This was good. I usually oil the whole bar down. Once again something I get obsessive with doing. I will be brushing the chalk off more regular too. I knew chalk had absorbing qualities but didn’t put two and two together. I use “Super Slick-Slick Stuff”from Lowe’s.

    Gun oil works well too
(Rem Oil or Hoppes #9, non aerosol)

By the way, you officially own the hyperbolic preface "In these trying times..."

I've been using it non-stop for just about every statement I make. My wife is so sick of it.

Appreciate it. I do not have the recommended 3-in-1 Oil in my garage, and I did not want to go to Home Depot (In These Trying Times) just for that. But I do have Remington gun oil in my cleaning kit (I prefer grease for my guns).

Looks so much easier when you tilt the bar like you demo-ed. My skills are upgraded once again, while being entertained.

Because of lockdown in the UK, I’ve bought a barbell set from Eleiko (competition powerlifting set, the barbell is the Eleiko Competition one / orange tag). Here is what one of their managers said re. bar care.

“The bar is made to last for a long time, so if it would need some lubrication then some type of grease inside of the sleeve is recommended, not oils. For that, the sleeve needs to be disassembled. The barbells have dust proof sealing so it shouldn’t be needed to have it sent to service.”

Question for Rip: I noticed that you recommended three in one oil on your clip about barbell care but this Eleiko manager is saying don’t use oil. My intuition is always to go with Rip before anybody else, but I would appreciate clarification whether it’s actually okay to use oil on my barbell. If so, why would this person recommend not using oil?

    Best,

    Robin

The Eleiko bar is a needle-bearing bar, and the ones we use are assembled with bushings. Two completely different situations.

Oh I’m glad you asked. I’ve got Jordan ultimate bars which I think have needle bearings. I was going to oil them. I won’t now. I’ve got my wire brushes in order to get the chalk out the knurl. I have some corrosion starting.
