I did my first power cleans today, and boy was it a humbling experience. Must have done 20 sets before I could get anything resembling what I've seen in the videos.
This is the last set of the day, at 85 lbs.

I didn't see the sticky about preferred angle being at 45 degrees until I got home - if necessary I can shoot another video next week, but any feedback from this first session would be extremely helpful.

    Thanks so much in advance.

Just like the deadlift set your back before you start pulling the bar off the floor. Pull it off the floor very slowly and be patient. Wait for the jumping position. Review where the jumping position is in the book and think of it as a trigger. Pull the bar slowly until it touches the trigger and as soon as it does you explode and jump. These are very good for your first time. Keep up the good work and post another check soon.

Thanks Nick, that does help - I was definitely rushing that first pull. I took another video of my last set today:

The movement still feels very awkward - you can see I even hesitated a bit near the knees on the first rep. Though I'm pulling it a little higher up, I think I'm still jumping too early.

Fortunately, I was able to find an olympic weightlifting coach in the area and I'll be getting some one-on-one coaching, so hopefully I'll be cleaning like a pro soon.

Really focus on keeping the bar close to your body. These definitely were a little better but like you said your still an inch early. The more you practice the less awkward the movement will feel.

So I've been practicing the movement, and this felt very good today (105 lbs). Does this pass inspection?

Make your grip a half hand wider. It's looking much closer going up your legs but it's still getting out in front after the jump and looping up into rack. Try to slide it up your shirt. You have to jump higher and land harder. I want to see your feet leave the floor and hear them hit the platform. Overall its looking much better keep up the good work.
