    bench: 205x3, 200x5, 205 (4/3)
    deadlift: 390 (5)
    NG chins: bw (5/4/5/4)
light squat: 250 (5/5) no belt

Maybe was a little under-recovered from all the tricep work Tuesday. I should be able to get 3x5 at 205 very soon, I think. Deadlift just keeps sailing upward as always, irrespective of what I eat or how often I train it. Think I may have slightly aggravated an old shoulder injury. Will keep an eye on that.

Hey Crockett, I've got a little challenge for you. You vs. me, first one to 700 pounds dead+bench sets of five. Totals have to be a set of five, for instance 250x5 bench + 450x5 dead = 700 or 200x5 bench + 500x5 dead, etc. Your bench is a bit higher than mine right now and my deads are a bit higher than yours. Loser buys the winner a tub of creatine or something under 20$. You game?

This sounds really fun, but I'm guessing it will take forever for me, because I'm trying to cut a lot of weight now. I expect to be losing strength in the next 16-18 weeks as I try to get my bodyfat under control (to maybe 12%). I see that although our lifts are pretty similar, your weight is lower. And you aren't even using a belt yet?! I'm pretty certain you'll beat me to the goal. Don't think I can enter a contest I'm sure to lose.

By the way, I sympathize with your bench agony. I am such a pussy bencher - I've been lifting now almost 2 years (albeit with shifting programming and lots of interruptions), I've gained 50 lbs. of bodyweight, and I'm still only benching 205x5 (well not quite). I have very long arms (77" wingspan) and this hurts my bench a lot. I think that what got me past the 170-175 range to where I am now is mixing in heavy singles, doubles, triples. I think the singles especially provoked some adaptations that linear progression on 5's was then able to articulate. At one point, I sort of moved to a TM setup, but really, doing 'volume' at 3x5 Monday and then 'intensity' on Friday at, say, 5 singles or a couple triples, really helped get things moving. That and assistance work on the triceps (dips, CG bench, lying tricep extensions, etc) I think helped me. Others also have success just with additional volume, too, like adding 1-2 backoff sets after the main set for 8-10 reps (at whatever weight makes that possible). At some point, continuing to hammer away at the 3x5 each time just won't work. But you don't need to switch completely to 'intermediate' programming. After adding in some heavy singles and assistance, I was able to keep the 3x5 going from 175-205.

That's cool, I had seen we were really close in terms of strength, age, etc. I figured it would be a pretty long run for myself too, especially on bench. I don't even have a belt yet, spending all my cash on food. You're not a pussy bencher, its the arms, us longer arm guys can't really compare with guys who only have to move the barbell 12" as opposed to 27+". Thanx for the advice with bench, its really helpful.

    press: 162.5 (3/3)
    squat: 340x1, 350 (1/1), 340x1, 340x0

Once I realized where my presses were at, I decided to keep the volume down. Something is wrong with that lift; last time I pressed I got threes at that weight AFTER squatting. So I guess it's fucked right now. Maybe it just needs some rest. Probably a deload. Fuck. Decided to do heavy squat singles because my old shoulder injury is creeping and it's volume that aggravates it. Squat PRs, but who cares? I could've done those weeks ago. No progress.

    bench: 230x1, 235x0, 205 (4/5/3)
    squat: 355 (1/1/1/1/1)
    chins: bw (4/5/3/4/3)

Bench and squat PRs, and probably a bodyweight bench (not sure exactly my weight right now). Thought I'd do some more singles while my shoulder is recovering. Didn't bother me at all today. I could've squatted 365.

Default Night of a Thousand Failures...and one quasi-win

    press: 185x0, 180x1, 180x0, 175x0, 135x8

    power clean: 198x1, 240x0, 240x0, 240x0, 230x0, 230x0, 230x0, 225x0, 225x0, 220x0, 220x0, 220x0, 203 (3/3/3/3)*

    DB press: 50 (9)

*These were not exactly sets of 3, but were as close together as I could get them, re-chalking and all that. The only highlight of the night was a new press PR, but with my 5RM at 160, I should really be able to get 185. When my 5RM was 150 I got 175. Power clean was a fucking disaster today. Couldn't even hit my PR, which I hit when my deadlift was 30 lbs. less. Weird.

    squat: 365x1, 315x5, 285x5
    bench: 205 (2/3)
    DB bench: 65x8, 70x6
    DB curl: 45 (8)

New squat PR. Got video, will post. Felt really sore today in the upper body, which probably explains the bench failure. Decided to get some assistance work in.

    starting strength coach development program
    deadlift: 405x1, 455x0, 395x1
    squat: 295x3
    DB bench: 70x6
    BB curl: 80x10
    press: 155x4

Shitty day. Have been on vacation, trying to get enough protein using whey, but falling short. Hadn't worked out in a while. Deadlift grip was slipping, and back was sore from jumping in the pool with the kids. Could've done a fiver on squat, and probably at 305 or so. Could've hit five on press probably, too. Back feels a little tweaked from the deadlift fail. Just barely broke it off the floor.
