Default Fat Bastard to Strong Bastard - RSA log

Bodyweight up a touch over 110kg (eek) and waist measured at 105cm. This is up from 106kg and 102cm measured 3 weeks ago! And I'm, only doing 3000kCal! Looks like I'm one of those poor bastards who gains fat quicker than muscle.

    Gym wear for today:

    Front Squat
    70kg x 3 x 2
just a quick stretch of the legs

    Press
    58.9kg x 3 x 3
used the chains again to microload. Got all the reps, but a couple were pretty ugly. One time I actually bent my head sideways to get it under the bar so I could lock out. I'm counting it though, on to a single wheel for reps!

    Deadlift
    155kg x 3
I was happy with these. I remembered to squeeze hard and pull almost all the weight in the set up, which made the reps feel easier. I think I may have had a 4th in me but didn't want to push it.

    HIIT
I stupidly checked the C2 rower and it is fixed so I felt obliged to use it. 5 rounds = 2055m
the worst part was my gym was showing a documentary on Beyonce (on mute) which contained slow motion dance sequences. It was mesmerising - like watching a lava lamp - but very distracting! twice I missed my interval start!

    Not a great workout.
My Aasguard order came through, so this was my T shirt for today.

This was the best aspect of my session

    Squat
    142.5kg 3/3/2
I could have had the last one too, but I pussied out. I was caving a bit in the chest on the ascent, but I managed to fight through it (partly by looking up) and had pushed through my first 2 sets, but on the last rep for some reason I just leaned forward and put the bar back in the rack. I'm kicking myself now, as I could have salvaged something from the day if I'd done it

    Bench
    82.5 x 1 (!)
70 x 5 x 3 - because I had to do something. Last set was all paused reps.
I'm having a bench problem, and that is unracking the bar. It's pulling my shoulder out and I'm already hurting before the first rep. I train alone so not sure how to tackle this one - maybe I'll try benching before squatting.

    Back extensions 3 x 8
I've never really done these. They were too easy - I'll add weight next time

    Hammer curls
    10kg x 8
    12.5kg x 8
    15kg x 8
I did these between other sets, mostly to work out some elbow tendonitis.

    Skipped the HIIT

No Beyonce today, but there was a circuit session going on, so today's workout soundtrack was a mix of loud 90s dance. Come to think of it, this may be the problem with my bench...

EDIT: Also, I've not been eating as much the lat few days. Dropped from 3000kCal to 2600, mostly lower in carbs. I feel much better, but this may also be responsible for bad lifting

    Today's lack of progress:

Food: poor (too many calories came from Ethanol)
Soundtrack: Guns and Roses, Use Your illusion 2, Rolling stones (I'm not in control of this)

    Squat
    145kg 2/1/-
I was just not up for it. my 80kg warmup was heavy. I felt like I was going to injure myself on these so I didn't push it.

    Press
    60kg 2/1/1

    Clean
tweaked my back on my 60kg warmup, decided not to pursue it.

Default A farewell to fast gains

I've now reached the point where I am stalling on all lifts, have reet each several times, and am still not going anywhere. Dropping to sets of 3 got me another 10kg on the squat and 5kg on my press and bench so I think it was worth doing, and recommend it to anyone facing the end of LP. I'm also not comfortable eating more to ush LP, because the extra food is making me feel sluggish and bloated, and that's the exact opposite of why I started this process.

To underscore my Novice phase, this is my progress summary

    Time: June 2013 - February 2014
    Body Weight: 115kg - 110kg (with a low of 106kg)
    Squat: 80kg 5RM - 135kg 5RM, 142.5 3RM
    Deadlift: 90kg 5RM - 155kg5RM (best single 170kg)
    Bench: 60kg 5RM - 80kg 5RM, 85kg 3RM
    Press: 40kg 5RM - 55kg 5RM, 60kg 3RM
    back injuries: 2

Also, reviewing this log it reads like a 9 month complaint. I am going to start a new log in the general training section to chronicle my progress from here, and I aim to do it in a more positive fashion.

Thanks all who have read and commented.

    Good Luck, and keep lifting
