For me the hook grip allowws me to maintain a symmetrical pull.
How does hooking improve your form?

This week I used straps on my second dl session. wanted to test to see if by reducing the stress on my grip, in turn reduces the stress on my shoulders and in turn allows me to pull more.....Worked.

Hook keeps me, just as you say, more symetrical, and its easier to stay close to the shins on the way up. I have a tendency to push the bar away with the hand that holds the underhand grip, it hurts a bit, but not to bad.

Regarding straps, do you think its a way to get your PR up. I mean first test it with straps and the next time go for it without straps?

I don't go with straps all that often, once every 8 weeks or so. When I do I will use it for 2 weeks. I will pull 2x's a week during that period. once with hook grip and than the other I will do strapped as a supplemental lift. but yeah, see how it goes.

So when you use straplift as a supplement, do you do high reps, I mean around 8 rep for 1-3 sets or something like that. Another possibility might be backoff sets with straps?
