    i'm trying, jan!

been sick this past week and reading through "the barbell prescription" to figure out my new programing, because i've come to the realization after reading about it for the past few years and experiencing it for the past three years and hearing it from skillen for the past three years that at age 53 and getting 5 hours of sleep max per night that I just simply can't squat and deadlift 3 times per week. yes, i am stubborn and thick between the ears. It's killing me because every time I walk into the gym I want to deadlift, and that's going to be the hardest thing for me to get used to. so i'm going through the book and trying to come up with a scheme that will get me back on what gainz trainz there are for me given my sleep/recovery situation, because that is the one thing I really can't change at this point.

I know what you mean. It can be difficult to combine one's mental age with how old one really is. My mental age is somewhere between 9 and 10-and-a-half, but I can't run away from the fact that I am really in my fifties.
How about some kind of H-L-M? You'd get to squat 3 times / week, and, depending on programming, deadlift twice / week.

You'll be fine Bingles! Just treat the deadlift like a fine expensive wine, or an exotic and pricey bean, instead of a bang for your buck guzzler.

    bp 75 1x5, 105 1x5, 125 3x5
    dl 225 1x5, 275 1x5

first time lifting in 2 weeks due to a variety of unpleasant issues and holy shit did it suck; old bastard that I am all I've done these past two weeks is to seriously decondition... squats felt sluggish, bp was noodle-city, and omg the deads were a disaster, i could barely hold the bar at 275.

and now i've got doms to look forward too.

yeah, i will figure out some sort of HLM to go with, and try and only dead on sunday
    sunday L-sq, BP, dl
tues M-sq, bp, good mornings maybe
    thurs H-sq, ohp

    something like that

as GOD IS MY WITNESS i shall never go 2 weeks without lifting again. my new address is DOMS City. every single lift was a painful struggle, and not pretty at all. shee-eet. so i am trying to start and stick to a h-l-m plan, and only dead once per week. god, that's the saddest thing i've ever written. but i am just too beat up so it's massive reset and creep back up time. oh, and i am going to try and squeeze out some extra sleep, no idea where i'll find it...maybe while i'm driving.

Gold. I can relate. Quite a few years ago I ran sleep deprivation studies, using uni students as guinea pigs. A not completely awesome way to kill about 16 weekends a year. Anyway in the early hours of the morning the toilets were very popular. Most would be asleep sitting on the toilet propped against the wall, but some preferred to curl up on the floor. Fun times.
