Indeed it does. Some of us don’t even own that may plates
It sure does look like your on your way to owning those 4 plates.
Strong work, Mr Bingley!
I can't help but wonder if that big jump between 335 & 405 was the culprit. Perhaps a 365lb single (90% of 405lbs) would have primed your brain and body for that 405.
Also, another consideration might be the volume of your warmups for that lift. I was getting completely gassed getting up to 340x5 and J Killmond pointed out my warmup weight choices and volume, then suggested a different scheme, which has worked wonders (although I am working back up towards 340x5 again due to breaks).
Your session:
155x5
205x5
245x5
295x2
335x2
total tonnage of warmup: 4,285lbs
The way I approach it now based on J. Killmond's suggestion ("using age as an excuse to do less warming up when appropriate"), plus using Phil Megger's "Plates and Quarters" choice for warmup weights.
135x4
185x2
225x1
275x1
315x1
365x1
total tonnage of warmup: 2,090lbs
So that's less than half the stress getting the body ready for the 405. More gas in the tank.
Keep at it!
Hi Bill! Thanks for that thoughtful write up, and you are exactly right on the correct way, the smart, logical way to get there. Had I planned the silly attempt from the get-go the what I like to call "Missionary Position" progression you describe just swapping 45s and 25s would have made sense and kept some gas in the tank, absolutely, and If I can get back to a point where I can lift a little more consistently and get back on a program I will follow that to a 't'. The 70lb jump was definitely a factor, but a bigger factor was how relatively easy all the others went up making me think what the hell, give it a shot. Oh and another factor may have been that between 205 and 245 I got a work-related phone call, so the 5 minutes of rest turned into 33 lol
Thanks for the encouragement and we'll get there.
Ahhhh, I do understand that warmup progression. I have to remind myself often to stick to the plan and program.
You're right, we will get there. Mid-summer I was thinking that it was within reach by the end of the year, but now I know it's not likely, and I'm OK with that. I'm in it for the long haul.
I can see since last time before summer you really got that strength going, from high rep to fives really pushed your lifting up.
