Nice!
Squat: 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 245x1
work: 255x5 -- nailed it.
backoff: 135x5
Deadlift: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 255x1
work: 285x5 This time I fucking counted right. WOOOOO.
backoff: 135x5
In early february, I was doing deadlifts @ 185 for the first time. Seemed like an unthinkable amount of weight. I exhaled at the top, or something, and felt my back slip on rep 3, and finished the set, and spent three or four days in excruciating pain... needed my wife to put my socks on, couldn't drive. Many of my friends told me how stupid I was to be lifting weights like that. My triathlete buddy said I should be doing low weight / high rep work 'at your age.'
So 285 is a pretty big landmark. It's a whole one hundred pounds more then the weight that was supposed to be the end of my lifting. Fuck that, I've got 315 in my sights.
Nice!
Go for it!
oh, one other really funny thing about today... I went downstairs this morning to grab a pair of gym shorts out of the dryer, didn't pay much attention in my sleepy state, put them in my bag with tee short, boxer briefs, socks, chucks. Get to the gym at work and look. Fuck. I grabbed a pair of my eight year old son's shorts. Size boys 8.
It's a good thing the weight room is quiet on the friday before a long weekend because there were few people to see my shameful display. Pale chunky legs barely covered by Larry Bird length yoga pats. Everyone should be happy that I have no video of today's lifts.
BIG bucks would be paid for that video! lol
I give myself some credit for showing up -- got back from the island @ 9:30 last night, got up at 6AM to get to the Y for press day in time to get out to the Memorial Day parade at 9.
Otherwise it sucked.
OHP Intensity: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 95x2
work: 105x2-- fail
backoff: 75x5, 55x8
Just had nothing going on.
Bench Volume: 45x10, 65x5, 85x3, 95x2, 105x1
work: 117.5x5x5 -- went pretty well.
backoff: 85x5, 65x10
My lower back was tight, so I did some light squats:
Squats: 45x5, 95,5, 135x8, 135x8
Hail to those who gave their lives fighting for freedom!
On a tip from MGilchrest, picked up a pair of Reebok Crossfit Lifting 2.0 Plus shoes on sale at the Reebok outlet last night, just in time for Squatpalooza day.
After squatting in Chucks for about six months, the shoes were quite different. On first note -- you need to pick your foot position carefully before you start down, no more cheating your toes out to adjust because your feet are ANCHORED to the floor. It did give me a way more stable platform. Did a few extra warmup reps to get used to them. I still found during worksets, a little, that I was inclined to roll forward on my toes a bit, which I think means I need to mentally keep the bar over the middle of my foot, sit back and squat.
Squat: 45x10, 135x5, 185x5, 205x2, 225x1
work: 235x5x5
backoff: 185x5, 135x8
DL: 135x5, 185x3, fuckit my back is hurting.
For the past couple of weeks, squats and DL's have made the left side of my lower back hurt with a little down the ass / upper thigh pain as well. It feels a little out of alignment. If I keep the bar really low and work on middle of the foot, it feels better, but it was painful enough today to make me decide to skip friday's intensity day and advil up for a bit to rule out inflammation from overuse. This is new since I started TM with the added volume so that might be the issue.
Great to hear about the shoes; I love mine (Inov-8s).
I found that when mine flared up I just backed off on the wieght for a few weeks and used the belt for all of my sq and dl, even the very light warmups.
