Retracing some ground finally on the squat.
Got my jon boat out on a local river with my daughter and her dog, Mookles. (good name for a Yorkie)
Mookles is a rescue and apparently has spent a lot of time on the water and just loved the 3 hour tour.
I'd say a bimini is a must for a 92 degree day.
I've learned a lot about boats, and saved a ton of money by doing things myself.
I figured a boat project is a good preparation for retirement.
My son-in-law fishes, and this will fish 3 with raised swivel seats.
My daughter had a great time, and her dog just was crazy happy.
(which helps the daughter be happy)
Boat launch is 20 minutes away.
Boat is easy to tow, at about 1500 pounds total... a little more than a jet ski.
But I'm rated for 6 people.
I get about 19 mpg towing with my Sienna Minivan.
specs: Grizzley Tracker 1754
Evinrude E-tec 25 hp electric start (rated for 50 hp)
1100 gph bilge pump
Bimini
Trailer weight about 1500
top speed 23 mph 1 person (21 with 3)
6 people
3 swivel seats (Blaine Farm and fleet)
This boat was about $7k to $8k. A comparable boat (3 seats and a console/live well) would be $18k. I would not trade my boat for the $18k one, which has 40 hp.
I'm a lot easier to tow, lighter, cheaper... just better.
Boat feels real good at between 12 mph and 16 mph. Good ride.
I really don't want to go 30 mph. Too loud, too much wind. maybe it is all my time kayaking.
