Leg strength is a huge factor in "all cause mortality", you guys should be fine.
I am not giving up, I am cutting risks where I can. I don't want to bring this virus home to non lifters.
Be well Carson!
It's impossible to know where this Covid-19 stuff is going. We just keep lifting and washing our hands and go on with life.
We are still planning our trip to Israel in May as tour hosts but we don't know if it going to come off or not. One day at a time.
At 66 my wife and I packed it up. We are glad we did. I might have been able to carry on for a couple of years but my wife says she couldn't have, at least not at the level she was used to. In any event if we hadn't retired then we might never had got into weight lifting.
It's curious that a strain of virus which is similar to the common cold has caused so much stress. Regular old flues are worse, but this one is tricky.
Never give up, my friend.

DB and I had planned to retire in October of 2016. After a high rating in my performance evaluation in January of 2016, the troops got word that Boeing was about to undertake another workforce reduction. I figgered, I was teflon and kevlar coated. Alas, my manager was inexperienced at the games played by other managers in racking and stacking across regional lines between sites in SoCal and I got word that I was to be laid off effective April 1. He was profoundly apologetic and owned up to his own error. Not a big deal since it simply moved our timeline 6 months to the left. The only thing holding us there was my determination to get my 1st degree black belt in Jujitsu after 13 years of struggle and pain. Being laid off, I got 20 weeks severance pay and also cashed in several months of vacation and sick leave. Along with Social Security. Got promoted in June and moved in August.
Loving retirement down South here below I-64.

Was considering going at 90% due to being 65 and Covid-19.
The saw that Nissim Nicolas Taleb was going at 80%.
So I went about 80% on weights but did a lot of rounding up.
Still felt real light.
Squat 45x3 135x1 195x3x3 - down from 236
Press 42x3 92x3x3 - down from 107
Dead 135x3 225x3 - down from 272
HIIT Airdyne 45/15 80 rpm x4 -2 cycles
Also putting away an impressive volume of homemade bone broth.
Has there been some solid guidance on this that I've missed?
So I'm either real smart, or real dumb.
Mark very impressed with my limited exposure to Illinois south of I-64. Being a big kayaker I have been scoping out lakes and rivers.
I like the area.
My travel plans are sort of in shambles, because the travel industry "has issues".
Work is liable to be crazy.
If you have questions about lakes and rivers let me know. If I don't know, I can talk to the guy at Shawnee Outfitters. He's an avid paddler and knows all the places to go and what they are like.
3/15/2020 Sunday
Since I am bored at home already, a one lift a day program, and a walk seems worth a try.
Bench 45x5 95x5 145x5x3 OK, that was more than 80% and up from 3's
Walked with DB. Nice sunny day. Felt good to get out.
I think my squats and deads will stay low percentage 3 rep.
But arm movements are going to 5's and more like 90%+.
One movement a day, and hopefully a walk like today.
I'll be working from home for a while.
Be well, use your heads out there.
Sully has a great Covid-19 video.
Humor helps, and of course, Sully is always on point.
3/20/2020 Friday Illinois going "essential travel only" tomorrow.
Went to grocery store with 10,000 of my closest friends... many sporting masks.
Was able to find all the stuff on my list, my wife's list, and my daughter's list.... took 3 trips around the store.
Got my chickens in the crock pots going for my "chicken monster mash".
Most interesting purchase: Frozen turkey breast. Which is in my garage in a cooler... takes several days to thaw.
It should fit nicely in my oval slow cooker.
Squat 45x3 135x1 205x3x3
Press 42x5 92x5x3
Dead 135x3 235x3
HIIT Airdyne 45/15 x 4 80%
Home gyms rule!

Why not join us on FB Patrons of Greysteel. We are crying on each others shoulders as we learn how to keep training without full access to even our private gym.
Carson: I probably should but my life is a bit crazy right now. A lot going on at work. Essentially I'm a travel industry analyst. As you might guess, predicting air travel has a lot of question marks.
But, this doesn't stop us from churning through data looking for clues. My time is hardly my own at this point.

Press 42x5 92x5x3
Dead 135x3 235x3
HIIT Airdyne 45/15 x 4 80%
All these lifts are bit over 85% of recent PR for reps.
The thinking is that this will retain some strength without too seriously risking a compromised immune system.
I also have 8 qts of chicken bone broth in my slow cookers.
I've been eating a chicken version of monster mash for most meals.
I have a cup of broth first thing every morning.
Been listening to Scott Adams on Periscope. He always seems to have interesting information.
I'm more concerned about this, or some subsequent event being used as a power grab.
I'm thankful for my training, and my home gym.
Believe it or not, it is hard for me to get to my attached garage to work out... I'm working from home.
I would have thought that impossible weeks ago.
One thing for sure, I will have a greater appreciation of my "normal life" once this is over.
Stay Strong.
