This fall, perhaps sooner, will be a great time to "craigslist" your home gym. Just saying. As gyms open, those who prefer going to a gym will eventually part with all that new shiny and barely used equipment... you can be picky.
Cheesy, I am waiting for this day so I can get the rest of the stuff I will need. I had cast my own 45’s with Sakrete, and borrowed a set of 45’s from my friend down the street!

Ajlindahl: Good work fabricating plates. Looking back you will laugh, but you'll be very proud of this effort... as you should be.
Craigslist prices are still stupid high. That won't last.
Rip has a good video on how to tell if a bar is straight.
Plates can be in pretty bad shape and cleaned up, that's what I did with the rusty Hampton Deep Dish plates I bought.

I would imagine it is easier to "borrow" 35's, a lot of folks have too many 35's. If you order individual plates, you'd never order 35's, but most sets come with them.

Hell, I have a pile of them. They don't even get to sit on my plate racks.

Inspired by Pizzadad, I floor jacked a joist that was coming through the bedroom ceiling, then I cleverly attached it like the builders should have in 1969.
Of course, I had to build custom brackets to do the job that a simple joist hanger could have done under normal build circumstances.

The wife was less than impressed that I brought the floor jack into the bedroom with assorted lengths of 2x4's a sheet of plywood for the floor jack, a level, and my Dewalt screw driver and drill.

"Trust me, I was an Engineering major at the #1 engineering school in the world at the time... for 2 semesters."

    What could go wrong? LOL.

Worked out fine. Couldn't get it quite flush, but just mud and paint from perfect.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Well done. Fixing something is often harder than building the original.

every attempt left the ground, typically above mid shin.

This was disappointing. Probably avoidable with better setup.
    doh grip felt good.
4 attempts might have been too much.
Pulled a muscle in my left glute, which is annoying.
In retrospect I think I was setting up too far back.
It is all about setting up right.

My daughter left a foam roller behind, this is the first time I've been tempted to use it.

Thanks for the kind words about my "2x4 pokes thru the ceiling" project. The hard part was figuring out why it was doing it in the first place.
Especially because it was under generous portions insulation. (which I installed)
There is no dust like the dust in an old attic when you stir up the insulation. LOL.
