Having a valid reason to be "looking up" is huge!
Mike said it! Your time is better spent strong and fit as you can be and not in a continuous decline into limited activity because of physical limitations. I am 68 and have not had a good year but things are looking up now and I think being as strong as I was helped me get through some challenges.

Anyone who needs motivation to lift should go to a 50th high school reunion... doesn't have to be yours.
Look at the people. Visit the "memorial photos". See how many hands go up when they asked how many have joint replacements.
I went to mine on Saturday.
Reread Sully's book.
I understand what you're saying about that motivation, but I prefer reading the logs around here while watching you guys crush it, no matter what life is throwing at you (including age).
Keep at it!
i had my 40th this summer and, sure, I'm overweight but dayyum I look pretty good and feel more betterer so the motivation is there!

Bill: You're right, but once in a while you gotta roll out the "shock therapy".
Mr. Bingley: I felt great about myself at the reunion. A lot of people are overweight... but can they move? I went from 280 to 247, aka real fat to just fat.
I've been more consistent, but have "schedule issues" soon. Been getting my working in early before anyone else is up.
I graduated from Sand Creek High in 1965. We had to skip our 55th reunion but finally got together for a 57th this last summer. Can you guess who was in the best shape? The reality made me smile.

Bench 45x5 90x5,5,5
Squat 45x5 115x2 160x3,3,3 good depth (for a change)
I added warm up reps and a weight because I had struggled a lot at this low weight.
Not long ago (2019) I did 275x5,5,5. the dead has come back from setback but not the squat.
I figured there was a reason, so I went back to a more conventional (aka blue book) type workout.
TRIP
5 days in Northern Wisconsin, boating with the grand daughter.
Prep for the boat usually screws up my workout area for several days pre and post trip.
(yes I realize that doesn't happen with gym memberships lol)
It is a wonderful thing to see the world through the eyes of a 6 month old.
She loves to be lifted overhead and go up and down.
Makes all that shoulder rehab worth it.
Hopefully I'll be back on a more favorable lifting schedule for a while.
The trip was great.
