Slow and steady wins the race that is strength training.
I've done SS before. Once in 2009-2010 when I was younger, but still old. Another aborted attempt last year for 6 weeks. While this is my third go, I have reason to believe this go will be charming indeed.
I am:
46 yo
tall for a short guy at 5'11
fat by most standards at 235 pounds
on my 6th week of TRT
I restarted SS this last time about 5 weeks ago. Had to take a week off for a house move and overtraining (stupid me increased weight too fast). What follows is my log after that week off and a 10% reset.
Squat: 185x3x5
Felt light as it should
Press: 100x3x5
Surprisingly light, flew up
Deadlift: 235x1x5 rh supinated
Did these at gym. So had to lower more gently than I would with my bumpers at home. Still no problem tho
TRT: 6th week. Doc upped dosage to 170mg/wk from 140mg. Can tell an energy difference with new dose.
Slow and steady wins the race that is strength training.
Squat: 190x3x5
Bench press: 150x3x5
Power clean: 100x5x3
Some residual soreness but not too bad. Some knee pain starting to creep in--aggravated by cleans. Cleans felt particularly good. My technique is soooo much better than it was 6 years ago--which was more heave than snap.
I think the third time will be the charm too!! Especially now that you're logging on here. Logging on here was a great decision and definitely helps keep me consistent.
Squat: 195x3x5
Press: 105x3x5
Deadlift: 245x1x5
Felt flat. Test crash? Food and sleep have been ok. Would like to get to 225 squat before switching to 10 # increments per week.
Squat: 200
Bench: 155
Power cleans (hang cleans): 105
Felt skkrong. Did muh cleans at the globo gym, so did hang cleans.
Squats: 205x3x5
Press: 110x3x5
Deadlift: 255x1x5
Achey and creaky knees, shoulders. Otherwise felt easy and good. Lot left in tank for presses. Hook grip on deads.
Squats: 210
Bench press: 160
Hang clean: 110
Felt a bit like work. But still had more in tank on everyt
