Been lurking for a while and doing the novice LP since mid-august, figured I'd start a log.

    M/37/6'1/233

Background: Lifted from high school through my mid twenties then pretty much put the weights down with the occasional "get in shape" month or three. Couple knee surgeries in my 20's for torn meniscus on both knees. Developed a "bad back" that got a lot worse my early 30's, would tweak easily, ache a lot, occasional spasms that put me down for a couple days from normal activities (softball, golf, sneezing while putting on socks). Read SS, liked the logic and no-nonsense approach. Sick of being weak.

Started on my 5's on 8/15 with

    BW: 220lbs
    Squat: 135
    Deadlift: 135
    Press: 70
    Bench: 165

    Current:
    BW: 235
Squat: 240 x 5 x 3 (2 resets for shitty form, tendency towards knee slide and the knee pain that comes with it + depth problems. Muscle memory wants to squat high bar, fighting it. Changed mid-week workout to 80% day for squats.).
    Deadlift: 295 x 5 x 1 (1 reset for shitty form, rounded lower back)
    Press: 147.5 x 5 x 3 (microloading 2.5lbs jumps now)
    Bench: 235 x 5 x 3(microloading 2.5lbs jumps now)
    Chins: 6,5,5

    Last workout Wed-11/29

    Squat (light day): 190 x 5 x 3
    Press: 147.5 x 5 x 3
    Deadlift: 295 x 5 x 1 (set back better than LW)

Do you think the injuries may be related to bad technique in lifting. I encourage you to not only post some videos but even more important go visit a certified SS coach from time to time.

Current pain in my knees has gotten gradually better after I bought some decent shoes and worked on reducing knee slide at the bottom. Still hanging around a little, but improving. Will post some form vids over this weekend.

Old menicus injuries were from 10+ years ago. Got one playing football and the other stepping in a muskrat run while duck hunting.

There is a SSC about 4 hours away from me, gonna try and schedule something once work slows down a bit. Appreciate the feedback.

    Friday 12/1/17

    Squat 245 x 5 x 3 (felt pretty good)
    Bench 237.5 x 5 x 3
    Chins: 6, 6, 5

Drank a bunch of scotch celebrating vikings victory over the falcons yesterday. Will see how that affects tonight's session.

    Monday 12/4/17

Squat: 250 x 5 x 3 (knees feeling quite a bit better after ibuprofren protocol last week. Dropped into the bottom a little quicker than normal and got better hip drive out of the hole)
    Press: 150 x 5 x 3
    Chins: 6, 5, 5

Was supposed to deadlift but a dude was camped out on the only platform for 25 mins so I did chins and left. Ate away the frustration with a big mac + 6 piece chicken nugget meal.

    Thursday 12/7/17

    BW: 233.5
    Squat (light day) 195 x 5x 3
    Bench: 240 x 5 x 3 (felt easy)
    Deadlift: 300 x 5 x 1

Knees pretty sore today, took a long time to get warmed up

    Saturday 12/9/17

    BW: 234
Squat: Fail. Tried to get warmed up for 20 mins and knees weren't having it. Soreness is right above kneecaps in quad tendon. Will try again on Monday.
    Press: 152.5 x 5 x 3
    Rows: 135 x 5 x 3
    Chins: 6, 6, 6

Frustrating day. Made an appointment with SSC Raimondi for 12/27, need to fix my squat among other issues.

    Monday 12/11/17

    BW 234
    Squat 255 x 5 x 3 (felt a little better)
    Bench 242.5 x 5 x 3 (easy)
    Chins 6,6,6

Took 1600mg ibuprofen during the day, helped with knee soreness. Going to FL Thursday for work, gonna deadlift this Wed and start back up on Sunday.

    Wednesday 12/13/17

    BW: 234
    Deadlift 305 x 5 x 1
    Squat (light day) 200 x 5 x 3
Press: 155 x 5 x 3 (starting to get harder on last set)

Lifted in the morning fasted, woke up late and it was snowing pretty hard, rushed through the workout a bit so I could get to work on time for a conference call. Good thing it was light squat day.

GF started Zumba classes last night, held back on preaching the SS gospel and encouraged her...She would be a beast on SS, but better to let my gainzzz speak for themselves and keep the trap shut. As a wise man on this board once said, when dealing with a significant other unsolicited fitness advice=criticism.

    starting strength coach development program
    Friday 12/16/17
    BW: 233
At a hotel in Fort Lauderdale for work through sunday. Used shitty hotel gym to do some basic stuff, no barbells.

    DB Incline: 80's x 5 x 3
    DB Lunges: 45's x 5 x 3
    Chins: 6,6,6
    Bike: 20 mins

    Monday 12/18/17

Back in Minnesota, -60 degree swing from Florida + snow to shovel, loving it.

BW 232.5 (oops losing weight, didn't eat enough on the road)
Squat: 260 x 4, 225 x 5, 225 x 5. Felt something in my right quad right above kneecap on rep 4 of 1st set. Rested for 10 mins and stretched. Felt a little better but still tight so backed off on the weight a bit, frustrating.
    Bench: 245 x 5 x 3 (getting a little tougher)
Chins: 7,6,6 (1st time getting 7 reps of chins since starting program.)

Overall a shitty day because of another squat fail. Hoping my appt with SSC next week can help some of my issues. Need to eat more.
