    Brian Pride / 44 yo / 6'2" / 6:10 sleep

    2/1/2018
    Squat: 5/5/5 (305#/ 138 kg )
    Bench: 5/4/4 (205#/ 93 kg)
    Power Clean: 3/3/3/3/3 (80#/ 36 kg)

Fifth rep on the last squat set was really slow. I really tried to focus on getting all the way down.

I pushed with everything I had on the bench but couldn't get the last reps out on the second and third set.

I'm having quite a bit of soreness in my shoulders from the power clean. I don't have bumper plates or a proper platform yet so I've been catching the weight on the way down. I think I'm going to stop Power Cleans at least until I get a platform built to protect the floor and maybe some extra rubber padding to drop the weight on.

    Brian Pride / 44 yo / 265.4 lb (120.3 kg) / 6'2" / 7:46 Sleep

    2/4/2018
    Squat: 5/5/5 (305#/ 138 kg )
    Press: 5/5/5 (145#/ 66 kg)
    Deadlift: 5 (330#/ 150 kg)
    Chin-ups: 7/6/5 (Band Assisted)

Focused on the squat depth and felt a lot better finishing out the sets than I did on Thursday.

Last rep on the Press was really slow but I managed to finish out the sets.

I'm working back up on the deadlift and was able to get all my reps in without having to take long breaks between reps.

Overall I felt really good today.

    Workout started at 5:10 am

    2/6/2018
    Squat: 5/5/5 (310#/ 140.6 kg )
    Bench: 5/5/5 (205#/ 93 kg)
    Deadlift: 5 (340#/ 154.2 kg)

Woohoo! Managed new PR's on the Bench and Deadlift today.

Completed all of the squats but I'm working my way back up to 320# after CRC pointed out that I wasn't hitting parallel or below.

I even managed to get the whole workout in this morning without having to pick up the Deadlift (pun intended) after work!

    Squat: 3/-/- (315#/ 143 kg )
    Press: -/-/-
    Deadlift: -
    Chin-ups: -

When I woke up this Thursday morning I was feeling awful, tired and just worn out. I went down to the gym anyway to get in my workout. After my warmups I hit the first set of squats and just collapsed after the third rep of the first set. I called it a day and went back upstairs.

Over the weekend I was still not feeling great and I had a lot of work to do on the basement construction that we're working on. Against my better judgement I blew off the workout over the weekend to focus on framing, electrical and drywall work.

    Squat: 5/3 (315#/ 138 kg ) 5 (300# / 136 kg)
    Press: 5/5/5 (142.5#/ 64.5 kg)
    Deadlift: 5 (335#/ 152 kg)
    Chin-ups: 6/5/5 (Band Assisted)

Okay, still learning lessons. Having effectively had a one week layoff I should have backed off a little. Instead I tried to start at the higher weight that I was supposed to squat on my last workout. Failed after 3 on the second set and backed the weight off for the third to get all the reps in. I did back off on the Press and the Deadlift a little and was able to get all of the reps in. Life seems to be a little bit crazy lately so I need to make sure that I'm not missing workouts. I've been stalled where I'm at for a few weeks now and I'm certain that it stems more from inconsistency than from hitting the end of my Novice progression. At least I hope that's the problem.

    Squat: 5/5/5 (315# / 143 kg)

    Deadlift: 5/5/5 (345# / 156 kg) New PR!
    Chinups: 6/5/5

Saturday lifting means I get to relax on the timeline a little. I managed to get it all in and set a new PR for the Deadlift. It feels good to make progress again. It's been a while since I've been able to add weight to a lift.

Keep your knees out on the ascent. They tend to collapse a bit. Also, more hip drive and less knee drive.

    Squat: 5/5/5 (320#/ 145 kg )
    Bench: 5/5/5 (205#/ 93 kg)
    Deadlift: 5 (350#/ 159 kg) PR

I tried keeping my knees from collapsing with limited success. I will keep working on this. I tried to focus on hip drive, I'm going to have to revisit the book and some of the training videos to see if I can keep cleaning up my form. I'm going to try to find some lighter colored clothing to lift in one day and submit to the form check thread too.

Overall today the squats felt very heavy every rep but I'm really happy that I managed to stay focused and completed the sets. The deadlift felt really heavy too but I didn't see that it slowed down much between the first and fifth rep.

    Onward and upward!
