    Default POST-MEET ANALYSIS (First Meet)

    starting strength coach development program
MEET: 2018 DEWFOAM MINDANAO POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS
BY: Powerlifting Association of the Philippines (PAP)
    DATE: October 21, 2018, Sunday, 9:00am - 2:00pm
VENUE: Crossfit Cranium, Avancena St., Davao City
    RULES: IPF

CLASS: 66kg (mistakenly registered for the 59kg, was duly penalized )
    BODYWEIGHT: 64kg

    EVENT JOURNAL:
Woke up 6:00am for church before heading to the meet site by 8:45am. Place was already setup with competition equipment (shipped in from Manila) already setup. I was pleased with the setup considering that this meet was the first ever held in my hometown by the organizer (PAP). I learned later that the officers there were all ex-national team members. Venue was a crossfit box (sponsor) with a few members competing.

The event started promptly at 9:00am with an explanation of the rules before each of the 3 lifts; very useful for me as a first-timer. There were 10 competitors (2 ladies) total, with 3 of us in my weight class. We were all organized into 1 flight with the lowest called weight starting. Time was kept strictly and rules enforced (missed lifts called due to not following commands, penalties called for not submitting 2nd and 3rd lifts on time, etc.) There were 20 minute breaks between events including explanation of rules per lift and warmups.

Was able to get all my questions answered by the organizers and even chat with one of the lady judges (a former Masters World Champ). I felt calm during the event despit the initial excitement and nervousness. Targeted 9 of 9 lifts, focused on my plan, and got 7 of 9. Was happy to compete in a legit setup and was vindicated in my training, which was done without a coach, and totally based on the SS Novice Program.

I was also happy to have my family in my corner. Saw a local record broken by one of the competitors. Even got a bronze medal as a souvinir. All in all a great experience for a first meet!
