Welcome. Please give us your stats: Age, weight, and height. What is an incline? Are you doing bench and overhead press?

I have a significant elbow injury which prevents me from balancing a barbell overhead. Incline bench is the closest substitute. The injury further prevents proper power clean form. Deadlift is the closest substitute. I'm trying to follow SS as strictly as possible but these substitutions can't be avoided.

Further background information is that I already know how to lift properly because I lifted during HS/College. While it's been years since I've lifted: I can already flat bench 225, deadlift 405, and dunk a basketball. That said, I understand that none of that makes me an intermediate lifter. I'm following SS to make linear progress because I know I'm a novice lifter.

Sorry about your injury. It is good that adaptation can be made that help us all gain strength in this program.

Good choice to go ahead and run the novice program. On that note, are you benching at all?

I would suggest alternating flat bench with 60 degree incline bench, since Starting Strength alternates flat bench with over head press.

I'm replacing flat bench with dips. This is because there might be enough overlap between flat bench and incline bench to defeat the purpose of alternating movements. I'm further deviating by squatting high bar ATG rather than low bar parallel. This is because high bar technique is already ingrained in my mind from my past lifting experience. That said, I did say I'm trying to follow SS as strictly as possible. I'll flat bench and low bar squat if I get an official recommendation to do so.
