Hey J, I'm enjoying this entertaining log so far. I'm interested to see just how much you "basterdize" SS. LOL. I'm new to strength training and kind of old for this game (58). Looking forward to your progress and how you manage it. (Frisbee Golf! That's a hell of an accessory)

Thanks Vinnie. I've run it before so I feel confident I can titrate the proper volume, I was more strict the first run through. Plus, I tend to go hard and need to be careful. Realistically I'm running 2 days a week of starting strength, with whatever I want in the middle workout.

I need some cardio and frolf works well, plus I'm actually motivated to do it. In 3 minutes on the elliptical my pulse was 131. My mountain biking buddy was at 90.

10 min power stretch. Low key love Cindy Whitmarsh.

    Planet Starting Strength

    5 min elliptical

    DB Press
    25 x 3
    40 x 5 x 3

    DB Row
    40 x 3
    55 x 8 x 3

    DB Squat
40 x 5 x 3 <-- these are really different even than a barbell front squat. 80# feels fairly equivalent to 125-135 back squat.

    Cable Pulldown
    40 x 10
    85 x 8 x 3

In a hotel, and I think almost literally every (legal) drug dealer in the world is at my hotel. Some JP Morgan conference for drug dealers. I saw more tailored blue suits with brown shoes today than I see in a year.

    5 min elliptical

    DB Press
    20 x 10
    35 x 3
    45 x 5 x 3 <-- starting to take effort

    DB Rows
45 x 20 <-- they only go up to #50, whatever, this is my half assed pull for the day.

    DB Squat
    20 x 5
    35 x 3
    45 x5 x 3 <-- again, not easy

Ok, fine. Off to Vegas for a few days. I may try to do something while I'm there, or I may just drink, gamble and eat.

Like 8 miles a day in SF and 5 or so in Vegas. Gonna have to do. Still no barbell gym but, other than the forum I'm in, I'm not worried about it. My buddy started a log I'm going to hunt down, maybe I'll join him at his.

I finally secured access to a barbell gym kinda sorta. Anyway, I'll do my next session with power cleans and an actual barbell. For now, more Planet Starting Strength.

This one was legit hard and I feel tired.

    5 min elliptical

    DB Press
    20s x some
    30 x 3
    40 x 2
    50 x 5 x 3

    DB Rows
    40 x some
    50 x 4
    60 x 20

    DB Squat
    Single 55 x some
    40s x 3
    50 x 1
    55 x5 x 3 <-- getting hard

    Cable Pulldowns
    42.5 x some
    70 x 5 x 3 <-- feel like I got sets of 8 before, but I was done.

Pretty good, this one was definitely a real workout.

Lifted with Mountain Bike Mike. Tired before.

3 min stair climber machine <--the only cardio device unoccupied. Awful.

    Squat
    bar x some
    95 x 5
    115 x 3
    135 x 2
    155 x 5 x 3
Mike was doing his workset and I figured I'd test it, so...
    205 x 1 <--easy peasy, I am clearly slacking

    Press
    bar x some
    70 x 3
    95 x 2
    115 x 2
135 x 5 x 3 <--felt strong, though I banged against the top of the rack on my second set on two separate reps and lost my concentration.

    Power Clean
    bar x some
    95 x 3
    115 x 3
    135 x 1
    150 x 1
    160 x 3 x 3

    5 min elliptical

Feeling a little beat up from my last barbell session, so I dug out my old Chad Waterbury "Huge in a Hurry" book for exercise ideas to mess around with on a light day.

    Standing Cable Pulls
    20 x some
    45 x some
95 x 8 x 3 <--It's hard to even stand up with heavy cable pulls

    Decline DB Bench
    20 x some
    35 x 5
    50 x 8 x 3

    DB Split Squats
    20 x some
35 x 8 x 2 <--was going to go for 3 sets but almost right away I really felt it in my hamstrings and inner thighs. I'd rather get strong slower than maybe possibly injured, so I demurred on the third set--it is a brand new exercise for me. Something got an oversized workout, we'll see how it feels tomorrow.

I do like the idea of working in some single leg stuff. Overall the dumbbells have been a happy accident, they both make it easier overall and work some muscles much harder.
