    Thanks Bingley!

    Good workout day

Set a record, time that is. Got my AM press and squat done in 90 min. Slow I know but I’m stoked. I’ve got a 20 and a 10kg bar, using the inside and outside of my rack I was able to do my squat stretching and warmups while doing my press. If I can hustle a bit (putter less), I’ll be able to get this in before work in the office.

    Summary
    Mon 7-12-21
    Body 223.3
    Fat 29.1
    AM
    Press 95 x 3,3,3,3,3
    Light Squat 160 x 5,5,5
    PM
    RDL 75 x 8,8,8
Noes ups 12,12,12 on hole 4, time for hole 3

That sure looks like a good workout Richard. If I look back a few years in my log I see I was using similar weights. Even though I've been pretty consistent in my training I've seen the weight lifted get lower. My only consultation is that I know doing what I do has at least slowed down the decline and that at 71 8 don't look to bad.

Thanks Bingley and Jerry! Your logs help me keep at it.

Yes I’m pretty happy with my progress thus far. No real injuries and a fair bit stronger.

I had my session with a Seattle SSC, Adam Fangman. I think it went well. My squat was not a bad as I thought. Mostly my depth was too low (who knew?) and this was causing me to get loose at the bottom and do a little “tilt” trying to get out of the hole. That tilt put the bar over my toes sometimes. And a side effect of the tilt was the bar wanting to roll up my back which was making me compensate be putting the bar a bit too low bar. Which was making my stretching harder.

He had me go to the bar w/o any stretching and low and behold, I could get low bar on the first go, albeit with a very wide grip. Then each warmup he had me narrow a finger width. I didn’t get proper narrow, but I did get my fingers away from the uprights before the work sets.

He tweaked my other lifts, but just the squat help was worth the trip and fee.

Oh and he had me tighten my belt one notch.

He recommended that I restart my NLP where we ended the day. I’m thinking hard about that. I hate the idea of going down on weights…. Giving up my every time pressing…. Grrrrr, I can be stubborn, but after thinking it over a day or two I’ll most likely do what I’m told.

    Summary
    Sat 7-17-21
    Body forgot
    Fat forgot
    Squat 135
    Press 70
    Bench 95
    Deadlift 205

He also recommended I forgo the RDL and just do a light 2x5 deadlift day, like a light squat day - when the time comes.

Oh and one more thing, I’m not thinking of doing a cut, but I did ask how to run one. Hold the weights the same, try for small gains? He said that during a cut, don’t focus on absolute weights, but rather body weight ratios. So for example if you used to weigh 200 and press 100. Then you loose 10lbs but press 97.5, you made progress from 0.500 bw to 0.513 bw. A 2.6% improvement.

I like that thinking, and note it here for future use.

Oh and one more thing, my 16yr old came and watch, filmed and listened. (Fingers crossed, maybe he’ll get interested)

    Good workout day

Today marks month 5 of my training.
I’m pretty much tweak free these days (knock on wood). Yes my right shoulder is a bit clunky/sore and my left elbow whispers to me sometimes. But nothing getting worse or asking for ibuprofen.
I saw a Starting Strength Coach, that was well worth it, and I should’ve gone sooner, like several of you said.
All the prior benefits are still there. Yesterday my oldest got a punching bag, 80lbs. I was easily able to grab it by the top straps and “press” it up and hold it up while he connected the chain. That would’ve been a real wrestling match for the old me.

Oh, now that I don’t have to stretch like mad before squats, this morning I did my press and squats “dovetailed” switching back and forth set to set. And got them both done in…. 45minutes! A no dillydally PR for me. Of course the weights are lighter cuz Coach had me reset for form. But still, 45 min.

This month I got serious about my protein, making sure I get 250g each day. Ugh I dream of HLM days for eating.

    Last month's summary
    Body 220.5
    Fat 29.8
    Squat 180
    Press 80
    Bench 100
    Deadlift 205
    Chins 3x10 w/rubber band on hole 4

    Today’s summary
    Mon 7-19-21
    Body 222.0
    Fat 29.1
    Squat 140 x 5,5,5
    Press 75 x 5,5,5
    Bench 95 x 5,5,5 (prior workout)
    Deadlift 210 x 5
Nose ups 8,8,9 w/rubber band on hole 3

It sure seems that the coaching session was productive. I'm sure it will show as you pass your old numbers in your log.

Yes Jerry, I’m going to schedule a squat tuneup for next month. Adam was good.

    Good workout day

Messed up my plate math on my deadlift, put 20 extra. Saw it in time, but was too lazy to pull it back off…
