    Session 13

    SQT 110x5x3
    BNC 90x8x2, 90x5
    DLT 200x1x3

Another week went by. Still: Added 10 to squat without issue; we'll be back at PR mode on Friday I think. Bench: Sets of 8 ended today. We're going to 5s, with some more 5lb jumps before scaling back to 2.5. Deadlift: Singles work so much better. I think I can get 9 deadlift singles a week out of him almost indefinitely based on today.

It's weird coaching a floppy teenager.

    Session 14 (20220715)

    SQT 120x5x3
    BNC 95x5x3
    DLT 205x1x3

Squats looked good here; benches were easy as 5s but slowed down enough that I'm gonna go 2.5 for load increase. Deadlift is rounding his back and I had trouble explaining what to do this session.

    Session 15

    SQT 135x5x3
    BNC 97.5x5x3
    DLT 210x1x3

Squats are still on a war path. Looking muuuuch better. Took him up to 125 and he jackhammered it so we tried 135 and he had 3x5 with no issue.

Bench control is floppy but he got it done. I gotta work that with him somehow.

Deadlift back is much flatter this session; I had him view me from the side and said "back not like THIS but like THIS; then fight to keep it exactly like that as you come up." Much better. 215 coming at him Wednesday.

He's been lifting long enough that bar control shouldn't be too much of an issue any more. If his bench is floppy, I'm thinking his set up might be loose or if it doesn't start out loose, it gets that way during the lift. Pretty common for beginners to come undone as soon as the bar is unracked or even while unracking. Just a thought.

Dalan: He's just generally floppy. Not a naturally coordinated kid, hasn't played much sports, mostly lives on the couch with a controller, and now he's 14.

His squat is finally, *finally* starting to look reasonably legit but he'll still throw an occasional rep that puckers my butthole thinking "O Dear Lort he's gonna throw the bar." And that's just one example. Difference between day 1 and now is pretty remarkable in terms of body control, to me.

By the time I started lifting seriously, I had childhood soccer and baseball, high school varsity swimming, 10 years of recreational lifting, and 20 years of Army service. My whole life prepared me to step up to a bar and do a very controlled motion. Eric ain't there yet but he's getting better.

Squat load increase reflects the young man showing increasing control of his body under the squat bar.

    Session 17 (Singles Day)

    SQT 155x1, 165x1, 175x1 (all PRs)
    BNC 105x1, 110x1, 115x1, 120x1 (all PRs)
    DLT 225x1, 235x1, 245x1, 250x1 (all PRs)

Short attention span, young fella? Okay: Let's see if you can concentrate for some singles. None of these were "1RMs," but they were all PRs. All 3 lifts looked better by the end of the session.

Gonna see Eric once more this evening, then I'm leaving for about 10 days and expect we'll have to backoff and run up again.
