Default Student at Starting Strength Boston

    • starting strength seminar jume 2024
    • starting strength seminar august 2024
    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    First session in the books
    46 yrs, 6’1”, 186lbs, 36” waist, 42” hips, 40” chest

    Squat 105x5x3
    Press 75x5x3
    Deadlift 180x5

My interpretation of the movements (based on the books and videos) drastically differs from how they are taught. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from a coach in person.

I'm not sure I understand your next to the last sentence. Who is teaching the lifts that do not follow the books and video? Do you mean that the SS coach does not follow the standards or that generally speaking people do not teach what is taught and you have found solace with an SS coach?

In any event, it is good to see new lifters. Keep it up.

    Your encouragement is appreciated!
    My post was worded poorly.
I tried to teach myself the lifts and the results were mixed if not poor. I struggled to interpret the squat in particular.

Not to mention, not following the program jumping from LP to intermediate too soon and not allowing for proper recovery.

Got it. Don't worry about the mechanics of the various lifts. I remember and forget and learn something new all of the time and I've been at it for ten years. Moreover, I have one of the best coaches in the business, Dr. Jonathan Sullivan at Greysteel. I still contend that having a good SS coach is very important.
