It might be better to face downhill. That way the floor is elevating your heel in a similar way to weightlifting shoes.
Ok the floor in my cellar is slightly sloped. At the moment the way I squat am facing *up* the slope, which means my toes are slightly higher than my heels. I think this should push me onto my heels, rather than my toes when I squat up - is that the right way around?

Agreed with dastardly said. Depending on how great the slope is, and whether you are also wearing heeled weightlifting shoes facing 'downhill' may be worse off though. If you're going to face downhill i'd opt for flat shoes.
I'd construct a platform that allows you to lift on an even surface. It shouldn't be too hard.
