A friend I have wants people to critique his Squat/Deadlift form. Please do note he hasn't deadlifted in 3 months due to wrist injury. The lifter is 16 years old, 5'4", 120-124lb and recently started linear progression.

Mind if I chime in? I'm a complete novice myself, but I'm sure the coaches around here will agree (and add to the list):
    Squat:
Next time you film him, read the sticky on filming techniques, it'll help diagnose problems better.
How Rip teaches is to put thumbs on top of the bar. Your friend is putting them around the bar.
Your friend won't help his wrist injury by bending his wrist underneath the bar.
I can't tell where the bar is due to the camera angle.
His feet seem to be pointing too far forward, and his stance appears too narrow (but this could be camera angle issues).
He's sacrificing tightness to achieve unecessary depth. This is resulting in his knees sliding throughout the entire descent, and by the looks of it, his upper back is relaxing.

    Deadlift:
Your friend starts with his hips too low, and the bar too far forward towards his toes. This produces and inneficient bar path.
I can't tell you much more on the deadlift as I don't know enough about it.

It might be prudent for him to lower the weight some and work on his form in both lifts.
    Hope this helps.

Hi, quick question about depth are you suggesting I squat too deep because many people are telling me to squat deeper than what I am now?

Are you attempting to do a low bar or high bar squat? If the former, yep you definitely don't need to go lower. A more qualified person could give you more details. Have you read the book?

Angle is much better on this 2/11 video. I worry most about the angle of the wrists with the thumbs around the bar instead of on the same side as his fingers.

It's difficult to analyze a DL or any lift with only one example but I concur with Phil's analysis...I think.

It looks like on the deadlift that your lowerback rounds before the weight even comes off the ground.

Coaches have any suggestions for that?
