    Hi

Can you tell me what i am doing wrong with my deadlift?

I deadlifted 137.5kg for 5 a few months ago using my old technique of just bending over and picking it up. I then had a bit of a lay off and started LP again a few weeks ago- this time videoing my lifts and trying to get my form correct using the SS books and videos. This has worked really well for the squat but I find the deadlift feels really heavy even at 115Kg here.

So I am trying to use the SS deadlift set up, although I don't feel I am very flexible right at the start when I am first bending over at the waist to grab the bar.

When I squeeze my chest up to put my back into extension, nothing much is visible on video even though i think I'm doing it.

I am 60 years old and weigh about 220 lb.

    Thanks

    Al

Apologies- video is now public and available- put it down to old age...

You don't quite get your low back into extension. At the end of each rep, stop, pull yourself tight, and then begin the lift. Don't just touch it to the ground and pull again.

Thanks- my lower back isn't really in extension even in the first rep. When I touch my shins to the bar and then try to get into extension by lifting my chest, this is as far as I get.

I think you can get it pulled a little tighter. Turn your feet out a little more and see if that helps.

    am not a coach,
and Jeff can correct me or you,
but you're breathing at the top and that isn't right,
deep breath at the bottom, lift, put it back down, then breathe again, repeat,
and that will be your pause and reset on the bottom also
