Am 4 weeks in starting strength (after 2yrs break from lifting)

Am having problems in deadlift, have always had rounding of shoulders & feels like my upper back is struggling. Took a video to perhaps get some tips on improving it

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It looks like you dropped your butt and moved the bar forward a little bit before you started the pull which will make the upper back struggle more than it needs to. Keep your hips where they are and focus on the proud superman chest as you pull the bar along the legs.

    Also note:
    1. You're pausing to long at the top. Just lock it out and set it down.
    2. I've never heard someone regret buying lifting shoes.

Thankyou for the quick reply Brian

Am lifting again tomorrow so will use what you have given me.

I was pausing at top because i was having a hard time getting my hips to follow through & was focusing on getting my glutes to finish.

    Any particular shoes you recommend?

Shoes Do-Wins. Videos are better done in front at 45 degrees. We can see more.

I would also recommend keeping a double over hand grip as long as possible. Seems like this is a submaximal weight in terms of grip strength, you can use mix grip or hook grip when the weights begin making double over hand impossible.

He's not using a mix grip...

He's actually fucking using a double underhand grip. Jesus christ that's amazing.

Change your grip to double-overhand (both palms are facing behind you as you grab the bar). This will help you keep your upper back tight throughout the pull.

Mother of God...I did not notice that until now. OP, not trying to badger or bully you...Why did you choose this grip?

I thought he was using underhand grip but I couldn't believe it. Don't use underhand grip. When the weights get heavy you will not be able to control the bar.
