    Thanks for the response again Pete.

    In terms of the hips, yes I was trying to use hip action, but again I think not standing in front of a mirror made the whole movement feel a bit alien. I would previously use the mirror to help action the hip movement.

    I think that might the same for my elbows? I would use the mirror to guide how low I should bring the barbell (chin level) so the tips of my elbows don't fall behind the bar. Would this be a depth issue?

    Using a mirror is a bad idea. You're better off recording yourself each set and reviewing right after. The lifts require that you're balanced on midfoot, and you'll be able to keep your balance better locking your eyes on a target without distraction.
