Squatting less than bodyweight - vertical bar path?

I'd appreciate your take on the above video, which is instruction from "Melbourne Strength Culture" and states that if you are lifting less than 1.5 times your bodyweight, a vertical bar path is not feasible because the bar's mass is not a large enough fraction of the total mass of the lifter+barbell system. Is he right? (The video is 5 1/2 minutes long, but not worth watching after 4:24 -- the last minute is advice to keep even pressure through the midfoot during the whole movement.)
